ROLE OVERVIEW The ASEAN AI Innovation Centre is the overseas R&D hub of our AI Business Group, localizing mature AI products from China and building new AI products for Malaysia and broader ASEAN markets, with a focus on energy and education. We are hiring a Frontend Engineer to turn designs into the product our customers actually touch. You will work within the architecture and conventions defined by our two Senior Software Engineers, implementing production-grade web interfaces from the Product UI Engineer’s designs, prototypes, and design system for AI+Energy and AI+Education products. Our Product UI Engineer owns design and AI-assisted prototyping but explicitly does not own production frontend code — that is your ground. You take design intent, prototype drafts, and AI-generated frontend code, and turn them into interfaces that are fast, consistent, accessible, and maintainable. This is an AI-first engineering team: we use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, and similar) daily, and part of your job is supervising and reviewing the output of AI coding agents — not just writing every line yourself. You should be comfortable making AI tools part of how you work, and curious about how this changes software engineering. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role — you build and ship the code yourself. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Production UI Development: Implement production-grade web UI from the Product UI Engineer’s designs, prototypes, and design system: dashboards, data-heavy pages, AI chat interfaces, admin views, and workflow tools. • Component Library: Build and maintain the reusable component library that implements the design system; keep UI consistent across products. • Responsiveness & Quality of Experience: Own responsive layouts, accessibility, loading/empty/error states, and interface performance for enterprise users. • AI-Assisted Development: Use AI coding tools daily. Review and productionize AI-generated frontend drafts against design specs and team standards. • Quality & Maintainability: Write component and integration tests, participate in code reviews, and keep the frontend codebase healthy as humans and AI agents work in it concurrently. • Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Product UI Engineer on design handoff, the Product Manager on requirements, and backend engineers on API contracts. WHAT YOU MUST BRING • 3+ years of hands-on frontend engineering experience shipping real products. • Strong TypeScript/JavaScript; production experience with React or Vue; component-based UI architecture. • Experience implementing design systems and collaborating closely with designers. • Practical use of AI coding assistants (Cursor, Copilot, Claude Code, v0, or similar) in your own workflow, or strong willingness to adopt them as your daily driver. • Good testing habits and a code-review mindset — quality matters more when AI generates part of the code. • Clear communication skills in English. WHAT YOU CAN LEARN HERE • AI-native development workflows: design-to-code pipelines, AI-generated frontend review gates, and multi-agent coding practices. • How enterprise AI products are localized for ASEAN users, from design language to interface behavior. • A clear growth path toward senior engineering under two experienced architecture-track mentors. LANGUAGE Proficiency in English is essential. Proficiency in (Mandarin) is strongly preferred. Malay is a plus for on-site work and local coordination. "We are looking for Mandarin-speaking candidates who will be serving Mandarin-speaking customers." WHY JOIN US • Founding team opportunity: join a brand-new AI R&D centre in its first year and shape how it builds software. • AI-first team culture: every team member uses AI tools daily; you will work alongside AI coding agents, not just other engineers. • Work with frontier AI models on real industry problems in energy and education across Southeast Asia. • 3-year strategic incubation: no short-term revenue pressure. Focus on building the right products and the right skills. TEAM CONTEXT In Year 1 the Centre is a compact full-time team of 15. You will report to the two Senior Software Engineers (platform and integration tracks) and work daily with the AI-Native Product Manager, the Product UI Engineer, the delivery team, and AI coding agents. Engineering interns will work alongside you on evaluation and internal tooling.

That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
