About the role The Financial Controller (FC) of MB Private (MBP), is responsible for delivering high-quality financial reporting, performance analysis, and commercial insights across the lending business and its associated funding structures (including securitisation and warehouse trusts). The role supports strategic decision-making, ensures robust financial control, and assists in meeting regulatory and stakeholder reporting obligations. The Financial Controller ensures that MBP operates with financial and regulatory discipline, transparency and integrity, and that robust internal controls, risk frameworks, and reporting processes are in place to support sustainable growth. It requires collaboration with the CFO, Treasury, C-suite executive team and other key stakeholders with a view to future progression into the CFO role following the incumbents retirement. Key responsibilities Lead financial planning, budgeting and forecasting processes, providing the CFO and executive team with clear analysis, recommendations and scenario modelling to support strategic decisions Prepare monthly management reports for MBP and funding structures Prepare annual financial statements in accordance with NZ IFRS, including consolidations Monitor variances and perform budget vs. actual analysis Oversee and support accounts payable/receivable, fixed assets, and banking functions Ensure compliance with all tax and regulatory reporting and filings Support the external audit process, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information and supporting documentation Participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of strong internal controls Present financial performance, forecasts, risks and recommendations to the Board and C-suite executives Work with the CFO to develop the finance team as the MBP expands About you Minimum of 8 years' relevant experience in financial accounting, reporting and tax compliance, including at least 3 years in a senior financial leadership or financial controller role Strong knowledge of NZ accounting standards and tax compliance Understanding of wider corporate governance and risk management Proficient in financial systems, preferably Xero, and Excel Proficient in the preparation of statutory financial reports and management of the audit process CAANZ, CPA or similar membership High attention to detail and accuracy Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Effective communicator with the ability to present financial information clearly Commercial mindset with the ability to manage a high volume of business activity About us MB Private (MBP) is a lending business with associated funding structures including securitisation and warehouse trusts. The FC plays a strategic role supporting the Executive and Treasury to integrate financial strategies into the MBP's broader business model. By assisting to align financial planning and capital management, the FC ensures the company remains financially resilient and well-positioned for growth.
