Job Description About our client A leading professional services firm's Data & Analytics practice is seeking a Data Engineer to help clients develop and execute their data strategies by optimising the use of information. Part of a fast-growing transformation team working across a broad range of sectors, you'll combine hands-on data engineering with client-facing advisory — designing and building enterprise data solutions while helping clients realise value from their data. Responsibilities Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines for structured and unstructured data, integrating APIs, databases, IoT devices and third-party systems Implement real-time and batch processing using tools such as Spark, Kafka or Airflow Migrate and optimise legacy systems to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and deploy data warehouses and lakes (Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks, S3) Automate workflows using DevOps tooling (CI/CD, Docker, Terraform) and ensure data quality and performance Partner with clients to assess data needs and design tailored cloud, hybrid or on-premises data architectures Advise on best practices for data governance, security and compliance Run workshops to translate technical solutions for non-technical stakeholders and manage project timelines, deliverables and documentation Requirements Bachelor's degree or higher in mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering or a related field At least 3 years' experience building data pipelines (e.g. Azure Data Factory, Airflow, Informatica, Databricks) Knowledge of data modelling (star schema, data vault) and orchestration tools (Airflow, Luigi) Hands-on programming skills (e.g. SQL, Python, Java, C++, Scala, SAS, Kafka) Practical experience implementing large-scale enterprise data solutions (data lake / data warehouse / data mesh) Deep understanding of cloud computing and data technologies across major providers (Azure, AWS, GCP, Alibaba Cloud, Tencent Cloud) Experience with Agile and DevOps methodologies; knowledge of Big Data, Blockchain, IoT or AI a bonus Strong problem-solving, decision-making and multitasking skills Proficiency in both spoken and written English and Chinese

That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
