Help Shape Safe and Sustainable Communities An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Building Certifier to join a progressive local government team and play a key role in delivering professional building certification services across the region. Reporting to the Principal Building Certifier, you'll be responsible for assessing building applications, conducting inspections, providing technical advice, and helping ensure compliance with Queensland building legislation and standards. The Opportunity In this varied role, you will: Assess and determine building development applications and concurrence agency referrals. Administer requirements under the Building Act and associated regulations. Conduct building and swimming pool safety inspections throughout construction phases. Issue final certifications and prepare associated compliance documentation. Provide specialist advice to the public, internal stakeholders and industry professionals. Prepare reports and recommendations relating to building compliance and development matters. Assist with the ongoing review and improvement of policies, procedures and service delivery. Represent Council as an expert witness in Building and Development Tribunals when required. About You To be successful, you will bring: Strong knowledge of the Building Act, Building Code of Australia, Planning Act, Australian Standards and relevant local government legislation. The ability to interpret building plans, specifications and technical drawings. Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple inspections, applications and statutory deadlines. A customer-focused approach and commitment to delivering quality outcomes. Proficiency using Microsoft Office and corporate information systems. Essential Requirements Bachelor of Building Surveying and Certification, or Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying with substantial industry experience. Ability to obtain QBCC accreditation as a Building Certifier (minimum Level 3). Eligibility for membership with the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors (AIBS). White Card (Construction Industry Induction). Current Australian Driver's Licence. Highly Regarded Previous experience within Local Government. Swimming Pool Safety Inspector Licence (Queensland).
