About the opportunity | Mo te whai waahi JBWere is seeking an experienced investment professional to join the Strategic Investment Office (SIO) as part of a newly established leadership team of highly respected investment professionals. Working alongside the Head of SIO and Senior Manager SIO, this is a unique opportunity to help shape JBWere's institutional investment capability while contributing to the continued enhancement of FirstCape's broader wealth and investment offering. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering investment solutions for institutional clients and supporting the ongoing development, growth and expansion of our institutional investment capability. This senior leadership role encompasses portfolio construction, investment implementation, governance oversight, thought leadership, and the development of investment insights and client content. You will help deliver robust, client-focused investment solutions aligned with client objectives, risk tolerances, fiduciary responsibilities and regulatory requirements. You will contribute to the growth of FirstCape's institutional offering through client engagement, business development initiatives, industry participation and the communication of differentiated investment solutions. The successful candidate will bring strong investment expertise, commercial judgement and the ability to communicate complex investment concepts with clarity and confidence while building relationships with institutional clients, consultants, advisers and key stakeholders. Key Responsibilities | Ngā Kawenga Mahi Institutional Portfolio Management Contribute to the construction, implementation and ongoing management of institutional client portfolios, including investment recommendations and implementation decisions through approved governance and investment committee processes. Support portfolio delivery in line with client mandates, investment policy statements, risk tolerances, liquidity requirements and ESG considerations where applicable. Monitor portfolio positioning, risk exposures, performance outcomes and mandate compliance. Partner with advisers, Philanthropic Services and SIO colleagues to support portfolio decisions and maintain accountability for client outcomes. Portfolio Governance & Oversight Participate in institutional investment committees and governance forums. Ensure portfolio decisions are appropriately documented, approved and aligned with approved investment frameworks. Work closely with Risk & Compliance to ensure adherence to regulatory obligations and internal governance standards. Thought Leadership, Market & Client Engagement Provide thought leadership and investment insights to institutional clients, advisers, consultants and other key stakeholders. Develop and deliver high-quality investment reports, market updates, portfolio commentary and strategic client content. Represent FirstCape and JBWere in institutional client meetings, investment committees, board presentations and industry forums. Communicate investment strategy, portfolio positioning, market developments and performance outcomes with clarity and confidence. Partner with advisers to address sophisticated institutional client requirements and support the growth of FirstCape's institutional investment capability. Collaboration Work closely with key stakeholders to deliver coordinated investment solutions aligned with client objectives and approved investment frameworks. Contribute to the evaluation and due diligence of external investment opportunities and manager solutions. Partner with Philanthropic Services, advisers and SIO colleagues to identify, develop and pursue new business opportunities within the institutional client market. Product & Portfolio Development Support the ongoing enhancement of institutional investment capabilities and portfolio solutions. Assist in the development and refinement of institutional investment frameworks, portfolio structures and implementation processes. What you will bring to the role | He aha ka kawea e koe ki te mahi Technical & Investment Expertise Tertiary or postgraduate qualification in finance, accounting, mathematics, economics or a related discipline. Demonstrated expertise across portfolio management, research, valuation analysis, asset classes, sectors and markets. Experience working with institutional clients and understanding governance requirements and investment decision-making processes. Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills, including experience working with complex spreadsheets. Relationship Management Ability to build, maintain and deepen relationships with institutional clients, advisers, consultants and key stakeholders. Strong internal, external and industry networks that support collaboration, market insight and investment idea generation. Leadership & Personal Effectiveness Excellent planning, organisational and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritise effectively and perform under pressure. Demonstrated professionalism, self-management, and the ability to build collaborative and productive relationships across teams and stakeholder groups.
