Local Justice Worker Make a Lasting Difference in Aboriginal Justice and Community Wellbeing Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation (MAC) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the Ovens Murray region. Our work is guided by principles of self‑determination, cultural respect, community leadership and improved wellbeing for Aboriginal families and communities. We are seeking a dedicated Local Justice Worker to join our team. In this role, you will walk alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are involved with or impacted by the justice system, providing culturally safe, trauma informed support to help them meet their legal obligations and strengthen connections to community, culture and wellbeing. This is a meaningful opportunity to support individuals to reduce reoffending, navigate the justice system and build stronger futures guided by culture, respect and self-determination. About the Role This is a dynamic, community focused position delivering culturally safe, trauma informed support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people involved with or impacted by the justice system. As the Local Justice Worker, you will work within a strengths based, culturally led framework to support clients to meet their legal obligations, navigate the justice system, and reduce further involvement. You will build trust, promote accountability, and support positive pathways by connecting clients to services, culture, and community, contributing to improved wellbeing and safer outcomes. You will • Walk alongside clients to support engagement with Community Corrections, courts and justice processes • Assist clients to meet Community Correction Orders (CCOs), parole conditions and court requirements • Support attendance at court, appointments and mandated activities • Provide practical support and case coordination to address complex needs • Connect clients with health, housing, legal and community services • Advocate for culturally safe and appropriate service responses • Promote cultural connection, identity and community engagement • Maintain accurate documentation and case notes in line with organisational requirements • Work collaboratively with Community Corrections, courts, legal services and partner agencies About You You are compassionate, culturally aware and committed to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders and colleagues, and demonstrate professionalism while maintaining strong boundaries in challenging environments. You are organised, proactive and able to manage competing priorities, with strong written communication skills and the ability to maintain accurate records. You are committed to continuous learning and professional development, and you work collaboratively while maintaining a strong focus on positive client outcomes. Key Selection Criteria Essential • A relevant qualification in Community Services or a related discipline, or formal qualifications at a lower level combined with substantial experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people • Understanding of the justice system and community corrections processes • Ability to provide case support and coordinate client services • Strong interpersonal and engagement skills, including working with clients with complex needs • Ability to manage challenging behaviours in a safe and professional manner • Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people • Good written and verbal communication skills • Ability to maintain accurate case notes and use basic Microsoft Office systems • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment • Demonstrated integrity, confidentiality and professional judgement • Good time management and ability to manage competing priorities Desirable • Identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander • Experience working within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) • Experience in justice, case management or community services • Understanding of trauma informed and strengths based practice • Knowledge of local Aboriginal community and services in the Ovens Murray region Mandatory Requirements • Current National Police Check • Current Victorian Working with Children Check • Current Victorian Driver’s Licence • Pre-employment Health Declaration • Willingness to travel locally/regional as required Why Join Us? • Be part of a culturally strong and community led organisation • Support positive justice outcomes for Aboriginal people and communities • Work in a supportive team environment with strong leadership • Access ongoing supervision and professional development • Make a genuine and lasting impact in your community Important Information Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation is a Child Safe Organisation with zero tolerance for child abuse and a strong commitment to ensuring children are safe, happy and empowered.
