About Rendy Rendy is a peer-to-peer marketplace that connects people who own high-quality equipment (cameras, gear, etc.) with people who need to rent it. We are building the engine that powers the sharing economy, allowing everyday individuals to monetize their unused gear safely and seamlessly. As an early engineering hire, you won't just be fixing bugs; you will be architecting the core platform, building complex payment routing systems, and shaping the foundation of our two-sided marketplace. The Role We are looking for a strong Software Developer with deep backend expertise to build out Rendy's core infrastructure. You will be responsible for building a robust system that handles user matching, booking states, escrow logic, and complex transaction ledgers. We are looking for someone who is a self-starter and highly self-motivated . You must be eager to learn , adaptable, and open-minded when it comes to adopting new technologies or pivoting architectures as our startup grows. Key Responsibilities System Architecture: Design, build, and document robust RESTful and tRPC APIs in [Node.js / TypeScript] to serve our web and mobile frontends. Microservices Implementation: Architect and maintain scalable backend services, demonstrating a strong understanding of microservices architecture to ensure our platform can grow modularly. Database Design: Architect and optimize our PostgreSQL database to handle complex marketplace logic, including booking states, transaction ledgers, inventory availability, and user profiles. Frontend Collaboration: Work closely with the frontend team to establish clear API contracts and utilize mocking strategies to ensure parallel development. Security & Compliance: Ensure user data and transaction flows are highly secure, implementing proper authentication, authorization, and data validation. Testing: Write comprehensive unit and integration tests to ensure our booking engine is bulletproof. What You Bring to the Table Experience: 3+ years of professional experience in backend or full-stack software development. Core Stack: Strong proficiency in Node.js (or similar backend environments like Go/Python) and PostgreSQL . You know how to write efficient queries and design normalized database schemas. Microservices: A strong understanding of microservices architecture, including inter-service communication, independent deployments, and service boundary design. Marketplace Experience: Prior experience building two-sided marketplaces, e-commerce platforms, or complex booking systems is highly preferred. API Design: You know how to design clean, predictable APIs. Experience with tRPC and end-to-end type safety is a major plus. Mindset: You are an open-minded self-starter who thrives in an autonomous environment and is always eager to learn new skills to solve complex problems. Nice to Haves Familiarity with frontend frameworks (React, Vue, or Next.js) to help unblock the UI team. Experience setting up local development environments and CI/CD pipelines. Here's how to pick the right one and stand out in your application.

That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.

Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.

Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.

When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
