Based in our Melbourne or Sydney office, the Financial Controller Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), is responsible for the management of ANZ accounting, financial reporting and audit matters under local GAAP and US GAAP, and for maintaining strong internal controls across the entities/businesses within scope. The role provides technical accounting guidance, leads the ANZ financial close and reporting process, manages internal and external audits, partners with APAC and local Finance leadership, and manages and develops the ANZ accounting teams. This position is also responsible for the regular review and analysis of these areas to ensure capacity planning, compliance with regulatory (internal and external) requirements and review of business processes and procedures - to identify improvements and efficiencies. This role is responsible for: Accounting guidance, technical accounting and policy compliance: Ensure accounting and reporting matters are accounted for in accordance with local GAAP, US GAAP and Assurant accounting policies; provide guidance to local accounting teams on accounting, audit, financial reporting and regulatory requirements. Contract evaluation and accounting memos: Work with the APAC Controller to understand and evaluate contracts for key accounting implications; perform initial technical accounting research and draft and/or review accounting memos for ANZ accounting issues. Internal and external reporting: Ensure accurate, timely and high-quality submission of internal and external reporting, including US GAAP, statutory and regulatory reporting for Australia and New Zealand (APRA and RBNZ). Financial close ownership: Own all aspects of ANZ financial statement close process; coordinate with country accounting teams, plan closing activities and ensure reporting deadlines are met. Quarterly reporting and business partnering: Review country quarterly financial reporting deliverables, including P&L and balance sheet variance analysis and support for Assurant consolidated financial statements; partner with the APAC Controller to understand ANZ key business drivers. Audit management and internal controls: Closely manage ANZ internal and external audits, ensuring financial statements are appropriately supported, progress is tracked, issues are raised in a timely manner and remediation actions are completed to strengthen internal controls. People leadership, capability and special projects: Manage the ANZ accounting teams, provide development and coaching for direct reports, assess team structure and capability needs, attract and retain talent, build trusted relationships with Accounting, Finance and business leaders, and support global accounting initiatives and special projects. Does this sound like you? 10+ years’ of experience in Controllership and/or Accounting/Finance leadership roles, including commercial accounting experience, strong audit management experience and experience managing large and diversified teams across different geographies Experience in the financial services and/or insurance industry across Australia and New Zealand is preferred (including IFRS 17 knowledge) Bachelor of Commerce or Business, majoring in Accounting; CPA or CA qualification Strong local GAAP, US GAAP and IFRS knowledge; strong APRA and RBNZ reporting skills Demonstrated strong leadership capabilities, with a proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing finance teams in a dynamic business environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills adaptable for varied stakeholders Strong Microsoft Office capability with advanced Excel preferred Strong organisation and time management skills Exceptional numerical, analytical and problem-solving capability; strong attention to detail Interested?
