Don't apply unless you've built AI that actually works. Not a chatbot. Not a weekend prompt engineering project. Not another "AI enthusiast." We're looking for engineers who have shipped AI agents into production or have built multi-agent orchestration that solves real problems. We don't mind whether you did it at work, at home or through an open-source project. We do care that you've actually built it. You'll embed directly with business leaders, identify high-value opportunities, then design, build and deploy AI systems that fundamentally change how work gets done. One week you'll replace hours of repetitive work with autonomous AI agents. The next you'll orchestrate production-grade workflows across multiple models, tools and enterprise systems. This isn't machine learning research. This isn't prompt engineering. This is software engineering for the AI era. What we're looking for: Non-negotiables You've personally shipped AI agents into production or built sophisticated multi-agent orchestration. You're Brisbane-based and can work from the office three days each week. You can point to real projects and explain the architecture, trade-offs and lessons learned. You'll also bring Strong Python (TypeScript is a bonus). Experience building production AI applications using modern LLMs. Experience with agent frameworks, MCP, tool calling, RAG and API integrations. AWS experience and modern cloud engineering practices. A builder's mindset. You ship, iterate and improve. What you'll get $180,000 + Super. Hybrid working (3 office / 2 WFH). Direct access to senior decision makers. The freedom to build, experiment and ship. The real possibility of promotion within 18 months. A business that's investing heavily in AI and expects it to become a competitive advantage - not just another internal project. If you've been waiting for a role where your AI work actually goes into production rather than only as far as another PowerPoint deck at the monthly governance and risk committee meeting, we'd like to hear from you. Hey, stand above everyone else with a short note on what you've built: jason@blackroc.co At BLACKROC Recruitment, we are committed to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion. We welcome applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds, including those with lived experiences. If you require any adjustments during the recruitment process, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the above-mentioned BLACKROC Consultant.

Here's how to pick the right one and stand out in your application.

That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.

Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.

Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.

When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
