About us The Investigators NZ Limited has been operating nationally since 1985. We hold PSPLA licence 21-088938 and work for corporate clients, government agencies, law firms, insurers and national debt recovery firms. Our team includes former detectives and career investigators. We serve thousands of documents a year across New Zealand. Our standard turnaround on a standard address is 4 working days. The role Field-based, working from home, covering Dunedin city and surrounds. This is document service on the ground, not a desk job. Contract, ongoing, not project-based. Initial term 12 months, reviewed and rolled over on performance. Some weeks are quiet, some are heavy. Assignments come to you from our Process Serving Manager by email, usually with 2 hours' notice. You accept or decline each job. Paid per serve for a standard Dunedin address, plus mileage beyond the city. Difficult and repeat-attempt serves are priced separately. Out-of-area work in Otago is offered first to you. What you'll be serving District Court and High Court documents, including statements of claim, notices of proceeding, witness summonses, bankruptcy notices, statutory demands, Family Court documents, trespass notices and statutory demands under the Companies Act. What you'll be doing Locating and identifying the correct person before you serve. Wrong-person service is the single biggest failure point in this job. Recording attempt times, dates, addresses, descriptions and what was said, at the time, not later. Swearing accurate affidavits of service that will stand up if challenged in court. Reporting non-service promptly with enough detail for the client to decide the next step. What we need from you You know what proper service actually means: personal service versus service on an agent, what counts as a substituted service, and why an affidavit that says "left at the address" is worthless. You can read a District Court Rules service requirement and follow it exactly. You write clearly. Your affidavits and file notes are the product. Organised. You'll juggle several open files at once, each with its own deadline. Comfortable with hostile or evasive people. Nobody is pleased to see you. Clean driver's licence and a reliable vehicle. Discretion. You will know things about people's finances, relationships and legal problems. Previous process serving, enforcement, police, security or repossession work preferred but not essential. What you get Induction with our Process Serving Manager covering our service standards, affidavit format and reporting. Ongoing training on service rules and any legislative changes. Steady work from established national contracts, not one-off jobs. Path into skip tracing and field enquiry work for the right person, which pays better than straight service.
