Theatre & Music Sound Technician Start Immediately Summary: The Theatre & Music Sound Technician is responsible for the day-to-day audio operations of the college's 600-seat theatre and for supporting the Music and Drama departments across all productions, concerts, rehearsals, and curriculum activities. This is a hands-on technical role that requires a confident and methodical approach to live sound, a strong grasp of modern audio technology, and a passion for supporting the performing arts. Key Responsibilities Theatre Sound Operations Set up, operate, and monitor the full front-of-house and monitor sound systems for all theatre productions, concerts, assemblies, and school events in the 600-seat auditorium. Carry out thorough sound checks and line checks prior to every performance or event, ensuring all audio signals are clean, balanced, and performance-ready. Manage and operate the main mixing desk during live performances, making real-time adjustments to maintain optimal sound quality throughout. Set up, fit, test, and manage wireless lapel microphones and handheld microphones for cast members, presenters, and guest speakers. Collaborate with the Director of Performing Arts and production teams to interpret and deliver the intended audio design for each production. Support the setup of in-ear monitor systems, stage monitor mixes, and any additional audio requirements for performers. Music & Drama Department Support Assist the Music department with the setup and breakdown of band equipment, amplifiers, DI boxes, drum kits, and associated backline for rehearsals, concerts, and GCSE Music performances. Provide technical audio support for Drama department rehearsals, LAMDA sessions, dance performances, and end-of-year productions. Support staff and students during technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and live performance runs. Assist with the audio requirements for assemblies, external guest events, and school-wide presentations held within the theatre or other school spaces. Support the setup and daily readiness of Music classrooms, including amplifiers, microphones, mixers, and audio equipment for lessons and rehearsals. Assist teachers and Pupils with technical support during Music activities and performances. Take responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the Mixing Room and Recording Room, ensuring all equipment is organised and fully functional. Recording, including mixing and mastering for performances and educational materials. Equipment & Technical Operations Carry out routine maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of all audio equipment including mixing desks, amplifiers, loudspeaker systems, microphones, cables, and stage boxes. Manage the safe and organised storage of all audio equipment and maintain an up-to-date inventory of assets. Advise the Head of Performing Arts on equipment specifications, replacement needs, and potential capital investment in audio infrastructure. Liaise with the IT department on software, digital audio workstation (DAW), and network audio system support where required. Training & Safety Support and guide student crew members in the safe and effective use of sound equipment during productions. Maintain a safe, tidy, and professional environment in all technical areas including the sound booth, stage, and equipment stores. Ensure all audio setups comply with health and safety standards for live performance environments. Strategic Input Attend production meetings, technical team meetings, and departmental planning sessions as required. Contribute ideas and recommendations for improving the school's audio capabilities and technical workflow. Job Qualifications Minimum of 2 years' experience in a live sound or theatre audio technician role. Demonstrated proficiency with professional mixing desks (analogue and/or digital), outboard equipment, and audio signal chains. Strong working knowledge of wireless microphone systems, including lapel and handheld microphones. Experience setting up and operating band and ensemble equipment (amplifiers, DI boxes, monitor systems). Good general IT skills; experience with DAW software or digital audio networking is an advantage. Ability to troubleshoot audio problems calmly and efficiently under live performance pressure. Knowledge of health and safety practices in live performance and stage environments. A qualification in audio engineering, sound technology, or a related field is desirable but not essential. Basic English communication skills are helpful for working with international staff; Thai is the primary working language for this role. A collaborative and proactive attitude with a genuine interest in supporting young performers. Working Hours Standard working hours are 7.30am – 4.30pm on school days. Availability to work evenings and weekends is required to support rehearsals, performances, and events.
