Intermediate Accountant / Adviser (AI-Native) Melbourne | Hybrid — 3 days office, 2 days home | Full time | National team Most intermediate accountants will spend the next five years grinding out financial statements and tax returns, waiting for someone to hand them advisory work. You won't. This role skips the queue: the compliance production happens offshore, and your time goes into valuations, financial modelling, tax advisory and real client relationships — the work most accountants wait a decade to touch. About Infinity22 Infinity22 is an AI-native accounting and advisory firm working with growth businesses across Australia and internationally. We've spent eight years building a firm that looks nothing like a traditional practice: compliance delivery runs through our offshore teams, our onshore people focus on high-value advisory, and AI sits at the centre of how everything gets done — not as a buzzword, but as the way we actually work every day. The opportunity We're hiring an intermediate accountant who wants to become an adviser — not eventually, not once they've 'earned it', but starting now. Your compliance skills got you here; this is where they start compounding into something bigger. From day one you'll be working across the advisory practice, and it's much broader than tax: • Tax advisory — R&D Tax Incentive, international tax, corporate and property tax, individual tax — the full breadth. If it's in the Tax Act, we'll research it and advise on it • Compliance management — acting as first reviewer of our offshore compliance team's work rather than producing it yourself — checking financial statements and tax returns, catching problems, resolving the team's technical queries, and escalating to our senior team, who hold final sign-off. From time to time you'll need to roll your sleeves up and jump into the work yourself — but the model, and the goal, is that you're the compliance manager, not the production line. It's what frees you up for advisory • Business advisory support — a supporting role on our monthly accountability and strategy retainers and virtual CFO engagements, working alongside our senior advisers • Business valuations — hands-on work on valuation engagements for transactions, restructures and strategic decisions, prepared under the direction of our senior team — this is regular, week-in week-out work, not occasional exposure • Financial modelling & capital raising — financial models for capital raises and M&A (including pitch decks), plus budgeting and forecasting within our business advisory engagements Your compliance background is the platform; advisory is the destination. In most firms, an intermediate reviews nothing and advises no one. Here, you'll do both — with senior advisers beside you, AI accelerating you, and a firm that's betting its future on the advisory function you'll help build. What you'll do • Deliver tax advisory across R&D, international, corporate, property and individual tax under the guidance of our senior advisory team, building toward running your own engagements • Review our offshore compliance team's work as first reviewer — check the jobs, catch the problems, resolve technical queries and escalate to the senior team, who hold final sign-off. From time to time you'll jump in and do the work yourself when it's needed — but the goal is compliance manager, not compliance producer • Support the business advisory side — monthly accountability and strategy meetings and virtual CFO engagements alongside our senior advisory team • Work on business valuations and financial modelling day to day — models for capital raises, M&A and client budgets, and pitch decks for capital raising • Work directly with clients — you'll be a relationship person, not a back-office one • Use AI tools (Claude and our proprietary stack) as a core part of how you research, draft, analyse and deliver — and help push what's possible • Contribute to a firm that's building its advisory function right now — you'll shape it, not inherit it Who you are • An intermediate accountant with a minimum of 3 years' experience in Australian public practice and strong compliance know-how — this is core. You can prepare companies, trusts and individuals end to end, you know the main technical territory (Division 7A, GST, FBT, CGT, trust distributions), and you can spot when a job isn't right • Genuinely strong people skills — you're comfortable in front of clients, you communicate clearly, and people enjoy dealing with you • Hungry to move into advisory rather than stay in production • AI-native — you understand how tools like Claude actually work, you're already using them, and you're excited by what they make possible in professional services. This is essential, not a nice-to-have • CA qualified, or close to completing the CA Program Bonus points for • Tax advisory or business advisory experience — detailed tax advice, business advisory or virtual CFO work • SMSF preparation or review experience • Exposure to cryptocurrency and digital asset taxation What's on offer • A genuine head start — the advisory exposure most accountants don't see until manager level, from your first month • A clear trajectory: intermediate today, running your own advisory engagements as you prove yourself, with senior advisers invested in getting you there • An AI-native way of working that multiplies what you can produce — you'll be years ahead of peers still doing everything the old way • Hybrid working — three days in our Melbourne office, two from home — as part of a national team • Competitive salary based on experience [insert band] How to apply If you're an intermediate who's outgrown the production line and wants to build a career advising businesses — not just balancing them — we want to hear from you. Send your CV and a short note on why advisory, and why an AI-native firm, is where you want to be. Applications and enquiries to [insert contact email].

Right now there are 11,726 open accountant positions on WorkMundi. The US leads with 3,242 jobs, followed by India (2,285), Australia (1,359), Philippines (629), and Singapore (441). If you've been thinking your options are limited to one country, look again.
One practical move: search by country first, not just by job title. The accountant role differs in scope, compliance, and day-to-day work depending on where you'd be based. A position in Australia may involve different tax codes, audit standards, and reporting cycles than one in India or the US. Narrowing by location before you read descriptions saves time and helps you spot roles that actually fit your expertise.
When you interview for an accountant role, expect this question: "Walk me through how you'd handle a transaction that doesn't reconcile." Hiring managers ask it because they want to see your troubleshooting method, not just whether you found the error. Practice explaining your logic step-by-step — what you check first, how you document it, and how you escalate if needed. That matters more than the final answer.
