Your tools. Your workshop. Your call. If you're a hands-on mechanic who's sick of being one of ten spanners in a big workshop, this is the opposite. You'll run the show - solo, autonomous, and trusted to keep a national fleet of diving and salvage equipment field-ready. About the Company Our client is a New Zealand diving and salvage company operating across Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington, New Plymouth, Stewart Island and Wanaka. When their gear fails on a remote job site, divers can't work - which makes this role genuinely critical to the business, not just another maintenance seat. The Role Based at their Otahuhu workshop, you'll be the technician keeping compressors, hydraulic packs, water blasters, hydraulic chainsaws, trucks and trailers serviced, repaired, and ready to roll. Kit is older and works hard in marine environments, so you'll need to be comfortable with corrosion, wear, and problem-solving on gear that doesn't always come with a manual. What you'll be doing: Servicing, repairing and rebuilding a mixed fleet - compressors, hydraulic packs, water blasters, hydraulic chainsaws Hydraulics work is core to this role — disassembling, servicing and reassembling hydraulic equipment daily Pre-deployment checks on trucks, cars and trailers, testing under load before anything leaves the yard Logging compliance via a tablet-based traffic light system and keeping accurate service records Occasional national travel (3–5 weeks/year) supporting other sites, working ~90% solo the rest of the time What we're looking for: Trade-qualified mechanic (engine mechanic or similar) — strong hands-on experience also considered Solid hydraulics experience — you know your way around hydraulic systems, not just engines Background in general mechanics, plant/hire equipment, heavy diesel, automotive, or aviation (helicopter/fixed-wing) Full driver's licence essential — Class 2 a bonus Self-directed — you'll get told the priorities shift; you won't get told how to run your day Why you'll want this one: $39 - $45 hr + overtime at 1.5x, paid weekly 7:30am–4:00pm Monday to Friday, with some flexibility Full autonomy over your own workshop and workflow Occasional trips out with the dive team to see how your work keeps them safe and working Before you're confirmed: full MOJ background check, drug test, and reference check. Ready to run your own workshop? Hit apply now with your CV - we're moving quickly on this one.
