The Head of Marketing & Communications is a strategic leadership role responsible for elevating ASHK’s brand visibility, audience engagement, and institutional impact in a resource-conscious, mission-driven environment. The role reports to President of ASHK and works closely with the President, Programs, Gallery, Membership and Development teams. This role aligns communications strategies with programmatic and fundraising priorities. The position requires a highly resourceful and creative leader who can maximize impact without reliance on paid advertising—leveraging earned media, strategic partnerships, compelling storytelling, and organic digital growth to enhance ASHK’s visibility and relevance within Hong Kong and beyond. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership & Institutional Positioning Develop and lead ASHK’s overall marketing and communications strategy to strengthen institutional visibility, reputation, and audience growth. Partner proactively with Programs, Gallery, Membership and Development teams at the early planning stage to identify high-impact stories and promotional opportunities aligned with programmatic and fundraising priorities. Shape and articulate ASHK’s brand narrative, ensuring consistency with Asia Society’s global positioning while engaging contemporary and local audiences. Provide strategic communications counsel to the President and senior leadership. Brand & Marketing Strategy and Content Innovation Drive the development of overall branding and marketing strategies, overseeing integrated full-funnel campaigns to strengthen ASHK’s visibility and market positioning. Develop compelling institutional narratives that articulate ASHK’s impact, mission relevance, and thought leadership. Proactively formulate and implement comprehensive communications and marketing plans to support the Center's exhibitions, programs, and public affairs. Manage and execute marketing initiatives and campaign logistics, including the end-to-end production of marketing and promotional collaterals that support fundraising campaigns, donor cultivation, sponsorship visibility, and membership growth. Develop ASHK’s brand narrative to ensure consistency while evolving it to engage different audience segments (young professionals, cultural audiences, corporate leaders, families, etc.). Public Relations & Media Relations Develop proactive media strategies to position ASHK as a leading voice in arts, culture, education, and policy discussions. Develop proactive media pitching strategies to secure feature coverage, interviews, and thought leadership placements. Secure high-impact media placements, feature stories, and thought leadership opportunities. Build and maintain long-term relationships with local and global media journalists, editors, podcasters and digital media creators. Prepare and distribute media collaterals, including press releases, press kits, and interview briefs; evaluate media and speaking requests for ASHK staff. Digital Marketing, Social Media & Content Lead ASHK’s digital content strategy across all owned channels, including website, social media, and email marketing (EDMs). Lead creative content production (short-form video, reels, interviews, behind-the-scenes, impact stories, thought leadership pieces) to promote programs, exhibitions and education initiatives. Develop organic and medium-appropriate content (text, visuals, and videos) and manage official social media channels (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, WeChat, and Xiaohongshu). Grow and engage digital audiences through platform-appropriate, organic content strategies Ensure timely website updates and alignment of digital communications with program calendars. Compile and distribute EDMs in collaboration with internal teams and ensure regular website updates for upcoming events and exhibitions. Crisis Communications & Issues Management Develop and maintain crisis communications protocols and response frameworks. Advise leadership on reputational risks and sensitive issues. Prepare holding statements, key messages, and media responses during crises. Safeguard ASHK’s institutional credibility and public trust. Performance Measurement & Reporting Establish clear KPIs aligned with institutional priorities, including: Growth in program attendance and audience engagement Quality and reach of media coverage Digital audience growth and engagement metrics Communications support for fundraising initiatives Provide regular performance analysis and strategic recommendations to leadership. Monitor and analyze campaign effectiveness, website traffic, and digital metrics against KPIs to provide strategic insights and actionable recommendations. Coordinate cross-functional marketing and promotional efforts among internal teams and external stakeholders. Requirements: Degree holder or above, preferably in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related discipline. Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience, including 3years at managerial or senior supervisory level. Proven experience in a corporate, business, consulting, or non-profit environment, with specific specialization in corporate communications, corporate affairs, marketing, and community/government relations. Demonstrated success in driving visibility and audience growth through earned media, partnerships, and organic channels. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills; strong pitching, writing, and editing skills in both English and Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), with good journalistic instincts. Ability to think strategically and handle challenges or inquiries from the media and community professionally. Experience advising senior leadership and managing sensitive communications issues. Strategic thinker with entrepreneurial mindset and resourcefulness. A strong team player with excellent problem-solving, multi-tasking, and organizational skills; able to work independently under high pressure in a fast-paced environment, with flexibility regarding working schedule (including long hours and weekends when necessary). Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Chinese Word Processing, Adobe Photoshop, Canva, website CMS, social media, and digital content tools. Candidates with less experience may be considered for the position of Senior Communications Manager.
