We are on an exciting mission to connect consumers to Grab's marketplace by allowing them to discover and engage with Grab's services and partners. Get to Know the Role We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to take part of the CX Team. You will be responsible for ensuring high quality deliverables, spanning across multiple key services powering end to end user journeys going from the login screen to the home and activity pages of the Grab app. You will be reporting to the Engineering Manager for this role. This is an onsite role based in Jakarta. The Critical Tasks You Will Perform Design and write with the cutting edge Go language to improve the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of Grab's range of services Work with engineering team to explore and create new design / architectures geared towards scale and performance Participate in code and design reviews to maintain our high development standards Engage in service capacity and demand planning, software performance analysis, tuning and optimization Collaborate with product and experience teams to define and prototype feature specifications Work closely with infrastructure team in building and scaling back-end services as well as performing root cause analysis investigations Design, build, analyze and fix large-scale systems Pro-actively debug and solve production incidents during your oncall shift Provide technical guidance, mentorship and knowledge sharing to peers. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
