The Fire Protection Technician coordinates all fire and emergency activities for the assigned site / plant and ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The position is responsible for developing, communicating, and maintaining a simple but effective fire safety program that meets regulated standards. Communicate with Facility Management on fire safety issues. Communicate with all appropriate regulatory agencies involved with fire protection issues including but not limited to state, county and city officials. Ensure compliance with all regulations concerning fire safety. Advise facility management if plant systems or programs approach non-compliance and assist in developing action plan to address issues. Monitor performance measurements relating to fire suppression and fire fighting equipment and report problems along with solutions. Manage projects related to fire safety and fire fighting equipment Communicate with Insurance and Company auditors on Risk Management issues. Investigate all fire incidents, prepare and submit required reports, and make recommendations to prevent future occurrences. Insure fire protection equipment is in service as soon as possible after a fire incident. Maintain all required inspection, maintenance, and testing documentation for fire protection systems as required by law, insurance companies, and corporate loss prevention. Respond to alarms and direct activities of Kronospan associates at the scene of fire emergencies Establish SOPs for all issures related to fire suppression, fire prevention and fire fighting Coordinate training and walk-throughs with city fire fighters Plan and implement fire and EMS programs in coordination with city officials and plant management Interpret and advise management concerning fire prevention standards, codes, and programs Conduct fire safety inspection of all new equipment prior to commissioning Conduct and/or Coordinate all mandatory fire system testing Work closely with maintenance staff to ensure any safety hazards are corrected. Make necessary repairs to mechanical and electrical fire suppression systems Coordinate with maintenance and purchasing departments to ensure equipment is maintained and necessary parts and supplies are on hand. Recommend purchases of necessary fire related equipment Actively participate in shutdown planning meetings relative to fire issues 3-5 years fire prevention experience in an industrial environment. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software Associate’s Degree in a safety or fire fighting discipline or high school degree with equivalent experience in a maintenance or fire system position Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent leadership skills Self management skills with a proactive attitude Mechanical and electrical skills Thorough knowledge of modern fire suppression and prevention and EMS principles, procedures, and equipment Working knowledge of first-aid and resuscitation techniques Considerable knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, and standards related to fire suppression systems Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, and PDM specifications.
