The Bronx County District Attorney’s Office ("BXDA") is charged with the twin goals of ensuring public safety and striving for equal justice for the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community. By "Pursuing Justice with Integrity," the Office places a focus on assistance for crime victims while simultaneously ensuring fairness to defendants in criminal prosecution. Moreover, the Office aims to balance the need to seek appropriate redress for certain crimes while recognizing circumstances when punitive measures do not adequately advance justice. By recognizing these significant distinctions and acting accordingly, BXDA has established a standard of excellence in the representation of the Bronx community at large, which continues to grow stronger every day. BXDA is seeking a well-qualified Lieutenant whose diverse backgrounds reflect an ability to serve the over 1.3 million members of the Bronx County community and pursue a safer Bronx through fair justice. The Lieutenant is a sworn police officer and a member of the Detective Investigators' Bureau who is responsible for the supervision and management of a team of investigators. They supervise the daily activities of the team, coordinate with other supervisors, and monitor the progress of investigations. The Lieutenant is accountable to the Chief Detective Investigator. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: - Supervise and coordinate work of employees engaged in investigations. - Supervising staff and their fieldwork, consisting of surveillance and undercover operations. Coordinates and participates in varied and complex investigations. - Correlates information gathered by investigators with the prosecutor. Conducts complex, sensitive, and confidential investigations. - Train subordinates in specialized technical procedures and methods. Prepares reports and maintains necessary records on activities. - Performs related work and all other duties as assigned PREFERRED SKILLS: - Experienced in developing informants and locating witnesses. - Strong technical computer skills using a variety of applications for law enforcement. - Experienced in surveillance techniques including photography and videotaping skills. - Experienced in conducting lineups and photo arrays. - Experienced in effective interviewing techniques. - Understanding of best practices in police operations and investigative techniques. - Ability to memorialize events, interviews and investigative actions through strong writing skills. - Ability and experience in conducting large-scale narcotics investigations. - Experience in the execution of eavesdropping warrants. - Familiarity with CALEA; SYTECH system; Title III requirements. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: - A valid New York State driver's license with a minimum of two (2) years of driving experience is mandatory. - As per NY Public Officers Law 2, 3-B, U.S. citizenship required. - Three (3) year commitment to the hiring bureau. - Must successfully pass a medical and psychological examination, and extensive background investigation is required. - Must be qualified to carry a firearm. - Current or renewable New York State Municipal Police Training Certification - Prior experience working within the New York City criminal justice system and/or experience as a police officer within the State of New York is a plus. - Extensive knowledge and investigative experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred: homicides, robberies. burglaries, major narcotics offenses, domestic violence, sex crimes, elder abuse, gangs, money laundering, fraud, financial crimes, traditional organized crime activity, and the use of electronic investigative equipment. Please Note: This is a sworn police officer position, which requires an experienced candidate. The candidate must meet all qualifications to be certified, as a police officer, in the NYS DCJS Police registry. This position requires the successful completion of police academy training in New York State and requires applicants to pass a mandatory background check to carry a firearm. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: *** Note: Due to the nature of the work performed and the needs of the agency, incumbents may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Additionally, the Lieutenant must be able to travel for work responsibilities and training, both within and outside of NYS. If you collect a NYS or NYC pension, the office will support a 211 waiver. Graduation from high school or its equivalent and five years of full-time, paid experience in police enforcement or investigative work, including two years of rackets or police investigative work; of which 18 months should have been in a managerial or consultative capacity, or supervising staff engaged in rackets or police investigative work. 2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1”. However, all candidates are required to have two years of full-time, paid experience in rackets or police investigative work, including 18 months of experience in a managerial or consultative capacity, or supervising staff engaged in rackets or police investigative work.
