The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The New York City Police Department strives to foster a safe and fair city through the strategic deployment of resources, focusing on both crime prevention and addressing quality-of-life concerns while building lasting community relationships. The Criminal Justice Bureau (CJB) facilitates the safe, timely and efficient processing of all persons arrested in the City of New York. CJB is the operational liaison between the NYPD and multiple agencies within the criminal justice community working collaboratively in the arrest-to-arraignment process. CJB Is comprised of five (5) Borough Court Sections, two (2) Cowl Monitoring Units, one (1) Investigations Unit and a Bureau office. Borough Court Sections are responsible for the safe and humane processing of all persons arraigned within the City of New York. Court Monitoring Units are responsible for the administration and monitoring of eight (8) Traffic Violations Bureaus. In addition, CJB operates two (2) mass arrest processing centers to safely process large numbers of prisoners during major incidents stemming from demonstrations and civil disobedience. The Criminal Justice Bureau is seeking qualified Police Administrative Aides to fill several vacancies. Selected candidates will be responsible for tasks such as, but not limited to: - Assisting Complaint Room Supervisor with locating, retrieving and forwarding discoverable material - Knowledgeable of computers - Processing forms - Ensuring adequate supply of all necessary arrest related forms - Making notifications 1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and (a) One year of full-time satisfactory experience performing clerical, word processing or data entry duties; or (b) One year of full-time satisfactory experience in public contact work requiring the obtaining and recording of information from persons; or (c) Completion of 30 semester credits from an accredited college; or (d) Two years of active military duty; or 2. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to 1(a), 1(b), 1(c), or 1(d) above. However, all candidates must possess a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent. Skills Requirement (title spec) Ability to type a minimum of 35 words per minute.
