General Statement of Duties Duties include but are not limited to: Provides food and care for animals in the Animal Shelter, cleaning the Animal Shelter, assisting the public with adoptions/redemptions/rescues/etc., coordinating with animal rescues, overseeing community service workers and volunteers, maintain records of impounded animals, attend adoption events and other public outreach projects. A person in this position may work weekends and holidays in addition to regular business days. Duties and Responsibilities/Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Working knowledge of principles, practices, methods, techniques, and equipment used in the maintenance and operation of animal shelters to include care and feeding of animals and the methods of cleaning and sanitizing animal quarters. Working knowledge of relevant laws, rules and regulations pertaining to sheltering of animals. Working knowledge of physical and behavioral characteristics of common breeds of domestic animals. Working knowledge of common disease symptoms and behaviors domestic animals’ display. Working knowledge of practices and techniques in the welfare and humane treatment of animals. Working knowledge of department policies, rules, regulations, and procedures. Desirable Education and Experience Physical Requirements Must be able to perform basic life functions including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions. Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must possess visual acuity for driving a vehicle, evaluating the activities of animals and reading
