Professional Engineer, Utilities Range: $61,859.20 up to $92,809.60 Grade : 34 (Employee: 7% on your current salary, whichever is greater; or 10.5% on your current salary, whichever is greater, if position is 3 grades or higher than current position) Appointment to a position in the classified service shall be at the minimum of the corresponding pay range unless otherwise approved. Examination is announced to establish an employment list to fill a vacancy in the Director of Utilities department and future vacancies as they occur. Minimum Applicant Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, as designated by the appropriate department; supplemented by five (5) years of design, plan review, and engineering experience. Must possess and maintain a license as a Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering by the Louisiana State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Registered engineers from another state shall have one (1) year to become certified within the State of Louisiana. Must possess a valid driver's license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification. Kind of Work Perform professional engineering work of an advanced level in the planning, design, plan review, construction, and maintenance of City infrastructure and utilities. Kind of Examination This examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, a performance test or any combination thereof deemed necessary to adequately screen and rank applicants . Examination notices will be sent out via email with a testing date, time, and location. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
