Under general supervision, is responsible for performing entry-level professional engineering work; performs related duties as required. (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.) Acts as engineer-in-charge of small construction and/or maintenance projects; Assigns and evaluates work of professional and technical staff; Checks work accomplished by subordinates for quality and quantity by using pre-established standards and policies; Prepares preliminary and final plans and specifications for minor projects; reviews and performs studies or additional research to evaluate engineering solutions; Reviews and investigates requests and complaints received from the public; recommends corrective measures; Inspects engineering projects for conformance to plans and specifications; Serves as liaison to and communicates information with affected groups such as City departments, inspectors, contractors, developers, design consultants, utility companies, or other participants pertaining to specific engineering projects; Assists in the planning and preparation of proposals and specifications for major engineering projects; Stays abreast of current engineering principles; Operates a computer and mapping software to draw and review maps and plans; May do on-site investigations prior to a project; May represent the division at meetings with local, state, and federal agencies, regional planning and technical committees, commissioners, citizen groups, engineering groups, and other City departments; May direct or personally engage in field surveys; makes plan-in-hand inspections of ongoing projects. Possession of a valid State of Ohio certificate as a registered Professional Engineer. Specialization in the discipline for which appointment is being made may be required for some positions and will be incorporated in the job postings, as appropriate. That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
