The Marion County Sheriff's Office Reserve Division is the only reserve program in America capable of completely replacing all Deputies on the road while they attend training without accumulating overtime. The Reserve Division was formed in 1968 to supplement the Marion County Sheriff's Office Road Patrol. Reserve officers are non-paid volunteers that work in investigations ,serving warrants, jail duties, weather and disaster call-outs and crime prevention. Reserve Deputies are also detailed for the Indianapolis 500 Race and 500 Festival Parade, the Brickyard 400, the Marion County Fair, Indianapolis Colts games and other public events. Reserve Deputies include a variety of professionals including nurses, teachers, firefighters, EMT's, accountants, investment brokers and people who own their own businesses. Reserve officers have the same police powers and are issued the same equipment as MCSO Deputies. The Reserve Division has its own rank structure and deputies are provided the same in-service training as Deputies. A fleet of cars is assigned to the Reserve Division and deputies receive a vehicle based upon the amount of time donated to the department, their availability and their performance. The Reserve Division utilizes cars assigned to the division 24 hours a day. Assist with Sex/Violent Offender Duties as assigned Assist with serving warrants as assigned Assist with traffic patrol as assigned Assist with special events as assigned Assist Custody and care of arrestees as assigned Assist in maintaing security in all detention areas, City-County Building, Sheriff's Headquarters, and Arrestee Processing Center May Escort and transport inmates/visitors May Complete records, reports and forms Respond to emergency situations within the facility Enter and retrieve computer data Perform searches of inmates and/or arrested subjects Attend regular in-service training sessions 1. Be a citizen of the United States 2. Be at least 21 years of age 3. Must possess and maintain a valid Indiana Driver's license upon date of hire 4. Have a high school diploma or acceptable GED 5. No felony or battery conviction 6. Able to work any shift or duty schedule - donating 32 hours per month 7. Submit to Character and Background investigation but not limited to: A. Credit Rating B. Previous Employment C. Criminal Record D. Driving Record Be in sound mental and physical health verified by a physician designated by the Agency. There is no recourse to rejection by the Agency's physician. Each Reserve Deputy must meet the following qualifications: Be certified by Indiana's LETB as an officer or have comparable training/certification,or Be a graduate of one of Indiana's certified Reserve Academies or have comparable training/certification Must be available to work a minimum of 32 hours each month
