The Wastewater Engineering division is seeking a motivated and technically skilled Engineer 1 to support the planning, design, and delivery of wastewater collection system improvement projects. This position focuses on wastewater collection system improvement projects and provides engineering support from initial planning through design, construction, and project closeout. The Engineer 1 works under general supervision while exercising independent judgment on technical assignments, coordinating with internal teams, consultants, contractors, and the public to help ensure projects are completed effectively and in compliance with applicable standards. What you will get to do: Coordinate and perform engineering design work and prepare plans, specifications, and related documents for wastewater collection system projects. Review and approve improvement and construction plans and provide technical engineering support within the assigned program area. Facilitate project design and implementation activities, including coordination with engineering technicians, construction inspectors, consultants, and contractors. Conduct field inspections and site visits to support design development, construction oversight, and issue resolution. Provide project management support, including contract administration, preparation of specifications and contract documents, cost estimating, pre-construction coordination, and interpretation of project requirements. Perform engineering studies, analyze data, develop recommendations, and prepare technical reports. Represent the organization in meetings and presentations with the public, agencies, developers, advisory groups, and other stakeholders. Respond to inquiries and complaints related to engineering projects and recommend corrective actions as appropriate. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in engineering or a closely related field. Up to one year of relevant professional engineering experience. National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering certificate is required. Valid driver's license. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one.
