The MTA is one of the largest transit systems in the United States and is seeking dynamic and energetic individuals to join the MTA team. The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is recruiting for A Repairman - Machinist. The A Repairman - Machinist will perform rail car maintenance and be proficient in the use of engine lathe, milling, boring, presses, precision tool grinding, radial drill, and shop equipment. Must be able to read blueprints; use precision instruments and various hand tools; break down and reassemble various components, as secondary duties; perform bench work from blueprints and templates to manufacture parts; and perform in sections and repairs to brakes, truck and coupler systems, to include the removal and installation of different components. Must be able to operate service equipment (trucks, forklifts, shop carts, 20-ton cranes, and hoists). Must be able to perform various other duties associated with the Metro Rail Car Maintenance Group. This position is located in Baltimore City. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Possession of a high school diploma or equivalency (GED) certificate. Experience: Five (5) years of experience working as a Machinist. Applicants may substitute formal technical training or on-the-job training in an approved apprenticeship program for experience, on a year-for-year basis, for a maximum of two (2) years. NOTE: A written and/or practical examination will be given to all qualified applicants to fill current and future vacancies. SUBSTITUTION INFORMATION Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 1. Eligible applicants may be subject to a background investigation under Federal and State laws and regulations. A conviction is not an automatic disqualification to employment. This position requires a good driving record and a valid driver's license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of Maryland.
