The Budget Department develops and manages Gaston County’s annual operating budget and five-year Capital Improvement Plan. We support informed decision-making by analyzing revenues and expenditures, preparing financial reports, and providing budget presentations to County leadership, the Board of Commissioners, and the public. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $70,300 - $123,025 The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform. Assist the Budget Director with the planning, development, and implementation of the annual budget and capital planning processes by: collaborating with the Budget Director to draft planning documents (calendars, checklists, training presentations); overseeing departmental budget request submission and compiling requests for review; maintaining County-wide revenue and expenditure projections; and drafting presentations, publications, and infographics for the County Manager's Office, the Board of Commissioners, and the public. Monitor, analyze, and create communications (visual, written, and oral) on organization-wide budgetary performance by: investigating budgetary issues or questions at the request of the Board of Commissioners, County Manager's Office, or department directors; and creating simple and legible reports tailored to specific audiences that inform on budgetary trends or forecasts and other related topics or special projects. Provide support to all County departments in implementing their annual budgets by: assisting with processing budget amendments and other financial transactions; reviewing and approving budget changes; and compiling and processing reports from the County's financial system to assist departments in processing budget amendments as needed. Develop an organizational awareness of and respect for financial policies, best practices, and stewardship of the County's resources by: assisting with organization-wide data literacy training; offering training on budget monitoring and reporting as needed; staying abreast of national trends and best practices; and seeking opportunities for additional professional development and certification. Provide research and support for special projects or related tasks as assigned by the County Manager's Office. Bachelor's degree Two to five years of experience in local government operations with demonstrated experience in budgeting, finance, and/or capital planning required. The applicant selected must undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.
