Under direct supervision of the Central Plant Facilities Manager. The Central Plant Technician will assist in the efficient operation, maintenance and repair of the Central Plant and other assigned Ak-Chin Community facilities and equipment including operation, maintenance and repair of small to large chillers and pumping systems, small hydronic boilers, air handlers, fan coil units, DX units, auxiliary equipment, water treatment and reuse systems, and other associated equipment. This position is entry level and may perform other duties as assigned by the Central Plant Facilities Manager or other management and operations personnel. Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in the Central Plant and other assigned Ak-Chin Community facilities. Employees may progress through the full salary range subject to their successful performance and annual budget approval High School Diploma or GED equivalent and a minimum of two (2) years experience in operations and/or maintenance of mechanical equipment; Or a combination of education and/or work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.. Must be able to travel and attend required trainings and meetings. Must possess a valid Arizona Driver’s license and be able to meet the Community’s insurance carrier requirements. Must complete and pass a background check. Additional Requirement Must possess or have the ability to obtain EPA Refrigerant Type 3 Certification within one (1) year from date of hire. This position requires the ability to lift 60 lbs. and be able to climb a ladder. Assists in performing a variety of manual and semi-skilled activities associated with operation, maintenance and repair of small to large chillers and pumping systems, small hydronic boilers, air handlers, fan coil units, DX units, auxiliary equipment, water treatment and reuse systems, and other associated equipment, including completing repairs in a timely manner in order to minimize interruption of service. Works in a safe manner with various hand and power tools. Assists in inspection, monitoring and recording the operation of the central plant through computer, meter, gauge, graphs, equipment sound, visual assessment, control panel readings and test results. Recognizes and reports unusual or out of parameter conditions. Reports unusual conditions to the Central Plant Facilities Manager. Performs preventative maintenance tasks such as changing HVAC filters, changing oil, lubricating bearings, replacing oil/water seals on a variety of pumps, gaskets, gears, and related maintenance work. Maintains preventative and corrective maintenance records. Maintains equipment maintenance and repair records through completion of hard copy and/or computer-based records including data entry of all maintenance and repair activities. Maintains safety and fire prevention equipment to ensure it is functional and operational and files and updates all Central Plant related chemical Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Performs other job related duties as assigned. • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions for operating tools and equipment. • Knowledge and skill in the use, operation of mechanical scissor lifts, power and hand tools; and other ancillary equipment is a plus. • Knowledge of proper use and hazards of chemical materials. • Skill in understanding and following oral and written instructions. • Excellent skill in mechanical and analytical aptitude. • Good written and verbal communication skills. • Basic knowledge of mechanical equipment such as pumps, compressors, motors, fans. • Basic knowledge of electrical systems. • Ability to follow orders and complete work assignments with a minimum of supervision. • Ability to work with hand and power tools for maintenance and repair of equipment. • Ability to work in various adverse conditions such as light or enclosed spaces, heights, and temperature extremes indoor or outdoor to complete working conditions. • Ability to follow safety standards in working with multiple services, tools and equipment. • Ability to observe, record and report unsafe working conditions. • Ability to establish and maintaining effective working relationships with other Community employees and the public. • Must have the technical skills to assist the Ak-Chin Indian Community’s Central Plant Facilities Operations & Maintenance Technicians. • Ability to lift at least 75 lbs without assistance. • Exhibits a strong desire to expand knowledge in operations, maintenance and repair of central plant systems and equipment. ds for work as scheduled or necessary. • Ability and willingness to be on call after hours, holidays and weekends.
