This position will be responsible for performing skilled maintenance, repair, construction, and grounds-keeping activities to ensure South Carolina Department of Natural Resources facilities, equipment, infrastructure, and properties are safe, functional, and well maintained. Job Duties Include: Performing skilled maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance on agency buildings, offices, shops, storage facilities, and associated infrastructure. Repairing plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, roofing, and other buidling systems as needed to ensure safe and functional facilities. Maintaining agency grounds, including mowing, trimming, landscaping, tree and brush removal, fence repair, parking areas, roadsides, and storm debris cleanup. Ensuring facilities present a safe, professional appearance for employees and the public. Assisting with or leading construction, renovation, and improvement projects, involving buildings, grounds, and infrastructure. Reading plans and specifications, estimating material needs, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable codes and agency standards. Operating and maintaining a variety of equipment including tractors, skid steers, excavators, zero-turn mowers, chainsaws, utility vehicles, trailers, and hand and power tools. Performing routine inspections and preventive maintenance to maximize equipment reliability and service life. Responding to emergencies such as severe weather events, facility failures, and natural disasters to restore operations and ensuring public safety. Assisting with agency events, special projects, and other duties as assigned in support of SCDNR's mission. Assisting regional wildlife, fisheries, law enforcement, heritage preserve, and administrative staff with a variety of operational duties and special projects as assigned. A high school diploma and two (2) years of experience in building maintenance. Knowledge of basic building maintenance, repair, construction, and groundskeeping practices. Ability to safely operate, maintain, and repair equipment, vehicles, tools and machinery. Ability to identify maintenance needs, prioritize work, and complete assignments with limited supervision. Ability to follow plans, manuals, and instructions related to repairs, construction, and equipment operation. Ability to maintain records and communicate effectively with staff, contractors, and vendors. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and perform a variety of tasks in support of SCDNR operations.
