Supervising Facilities Maintenance Mechanic

The County of San Luis is seeking a Supervising Facility Maintenance Mechanic to oversee and coordinate the daily maintenance, repair, and operation of buildings, facilities, and related infrastructure. This position provides hands-on technical expertise while also serving as a working supervisor, ensuring maintenance tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and according to industry standards. Typical Tasks and Representative Duties: Oversees a maintenance work group that services County facilities Evaluates the performance of the work group staff Coordinates with vendors and suppliers under contract for goods and services Confers with management and recommends operational and procedural policies Instructs subordinate personnel in operation and maintenance techniques and procedures; Acts for the Building Maintenance Manager as needed. They ensure facilities are safe, efficient, and fully operational while guiding a team of maintenance professionals. They are able to diagnose complex issues and teach others how to solve them. Must communicate well with staff, supervisors, contractors, and building users. Education and Experience A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes: Graduation from high school or possession of G.E.D. Certificate. In addition: Either A: Five years of skilled maintenance experience in a variety of building trades Or B: Two years of supervisory experience in a facility maintenance setting. Licenses and Certificates Certain positions within this classification may require driving. When driving is an essential function of the position, a valid CALIFORNIA driver license will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment. Other Conditions of Employment A physical exam required for this position. Employees in this classification may be required to work holidays, weekends and irregular hours.
