This is skilled work installing, operating and maintaining natural gas system pressure/flow regulation equipment. This includes skilled labor in installation, maintenance, adjustment, inspection and testing of gate stations, regulator stations and relief sites. The natural gas regulator technician is responsible for assisting with the proper odorization of natural gas at City gate stations to include but not limited to the installation, operation and maintenance of all odorization equipment, including monitoring and adjusting odorant concentrations. This position reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Gas and Water. Assist the Regulator Technician II in the installation, operation, maintenance and adjustment of regulators according to the Department of Transportation (DOT) procedures and requirements; Assist with troubleshooting various natural gas system related service calls and promptly, effectively, and safely resolve service issues; Compile and maintain work and inspection records; compile and maintain various required records and reports; Assist with the installation, operation, maintenance and/or replace natural gas regulators and relief valves; Assist with the installation, operation and maintenance of gas odorization equipment; Operate and maintain natural gas fired boilers; Perform emergency repairs and keep regulator pits pumped out if flooded when the Regulator Technician II is unavailable; Performs related work as required. Basic knowledge of mechanical operation of regulators and all associated equipment. Basic knowledge of operation of all regulator stations. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, specifications, and construction plans/drawings. Thorough knowledge of construction and maintenance materials, tools, equipment applicable to the required work. Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety requirements. Thorough knowledge of City natural gas system piping/pressure layout. Ability to meet/exceed DOT requirements. Ability to compile and maintain records and prepare various reports. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) Valid Driver's License Six (6) months experience or training in gas operations and regulators Must be Operator qualified. Preferred Qualifications: One (1) year experience or training in gas operations and regulators.
