A new vacancy now exists in the Department of Law Enforcement - Civil Division. 1. Must be a current BSO employee who has successfully completed their probationary period. High school diploma or equivalent. An evaluation of foreign high school diploma may be required. Six months previous experience in administrative support work and/or training demonstrating ability to maintain accurate and complete records or documentation. Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license throughout employment without any restrictions which affect job performance. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Such experience must be clearly documented for consideration. Under administrative direction, the purpose of the position is to perform entry-level clerical assistance relating to the service of legal documents within the Civil Division of the Broward County Sheriff's Office. Employees in this classification perform routine administrative support work in the preparation, review, correction, recording and distribution of legal documents and receipt as assigned. Incumbents function with considerable independence in routine tasks, referring non-routine or complex concerns to an administrative superior. Incumbents accomplish unit functions through rotating assigned work areas, and participate in cross training to ensure satisfactory performance in all Civil Process functions. Essential functions as outlined herein are not necessarily performed by all incumbents, but, rather, are accomplished by the unit as a whole. Performs related work as directed. The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position. Receives, processes, prepares and records primarily non-enforceable legal documents for service of process. Under direction, assists in the preparation and distribution of enforceable legal documents for service of process. Enters and accesses information in the Civil Process database, including entering data to generate a service sheet to return information after the service sheets have been completed by the deputies. Performs various administrative duties in supporting unit functions, i.e., opening and distributing mail, data entry, stamping traffic transactions, filing documentation, copying, maintaining logs and receipts, and compiling service packets. Researches, compiles, and prepares files and documents within the Civil Division. Assigns legal documents to appropriate Civil Division personnel for service. Responds to routine in person and telephone inquiries concerning service of process of legal documents; provides resolution, information and direction accordingly. Acts as liaison with other agency departments, law enforcement agencies, judicial entities, attorneys, judges, governmental agencies and other entities involved in the service of process. Maintains security, integrity, and confidentiality of civil process data according to prescribed unit policy, procedures, and applicable regulatory standards. Performs related duties as directed. Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). May require physical agility and balance for tasks, such as climbing, kneeling, bending, stooping and/or reaching for objects at or above floor level. Tasks involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Work is performed in usual office conditions with rare exposure to disagreeable environmental factors.
