Volunteer - WET Science Center

LOTT Clean Water Alliance's Water Education and Technology (WET) Science Center provides the community with a free, hands-on opportunity to learn all about water – one of our most precious resources. The WET Science Center is recruiting friendly people to serve as volunteers to interact with the public in this fun and educational setting. Join our Water Squad and help teach visitors about water and a range of other science subjects. Shifts are 2-hours and take place Saturdays between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. Volunteers are required to complete at least one shift per month. Volunteers will report to the Environmental Education staff and interact with visitors of all ages in the WET Science Center and activity room, especially children. During a typical shift, volunteers assist visitors with crafts, games and activities; answer questions; and help create a welcoming and engaging atmosphere. They may also assemble giveaways or tidy the activity room. There are also opportunities for volunteers to shadow school programs about wastewater and green design, or staff special events in the community. Volunteers must be 16 or older Ability to interact and communicate with the public Ability to accurately share LOTT messaging Ability to welcome and relate to diverse audiences with enthusiasm and respect Understand and follow instructions, seeking clarification when necessary Demonstrate punctual and reliable attendance Experience working with children a plus Knowledge of water and/or environmental issues a plus Before volunteering, participants must: Successfully complete a background check Attend an orientation consisting of: Tips for interacting with the public Safety and behavior guidelines A tour of the Budd Inlet Treatment Plant (BITP), LOTT's wastewater treatment facility
