As a candidate for this job, you will have experience in construction methods and materials, basic construction safety, and be capable of leading by example and earning the respect of your coworkers. As you develop in this role, you will be responsible for assisting the Engineering Inspector as part of the Stormwater Asset Management Inspections team with camera inspections and maintenance of stormwater infrastructure within the City of Raleigh’s Right of Way. You will assist in routine inspections on underground stormwater pipe using cameras and dedicated inspection software. This position may involve working in confined spaces, including underground drainage structures. In this position, you are required to work extended hours on rotating shifts during emergency situations and inclement weather. About Us: Joining our Transportation Maintenance Division will provide an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in the maintenance of critical infrastructure such as sidewalks, curb and gutter, asphalt, medians, and storm drains. As a member of our 222-person staff, you will contribute to maintenance of 1,130 miles of streets and sidewalks; the upkeep of over 33,000 curb ramps; and the protection of 3.2 million linear feet of stormwater pipes connecting more than 32,000 drainage inlets.The Transportation Stormwater Asset Management Inspections Unit is responsible for performing daily inspections to track conditions of the City’s stormwater assets. Stormwater assets are defined as pipes, drains, and structures of all sizes that make up the City’s stormwater system. Assist in performing pipe video inspections; primarily pole camera and crawler camera; operate various pipe inspection equipment and operate locating equipment, while meeting inspection production goals Initiates Geographic Information Services (GIS) using mobile devices Operates various types of heavy equipment and vehicles as needed including but not limited to: camera vans and other various machines Maintains assigned equipment and tools; Establishes priorities, performs repairs and/or replacement of inspection equipment parts, cleans and performs preventative maintenance, and monitors need for replacement of advanced repairs May assist with generating reports to document operations performed May interact with the general public, answering questions and concerns Performs related work as required Required Education and Experience High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency; less than 1 years’ experience in performing construction, utility installation, or related work OR Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted Required Licenses or Certifications Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire Knowledge of: Inspection software GIS Symbology as it pertains to storm water systems Pipe defects and pipe repair techniques Roadway maintenance, traffic safety, flagging operations, and work zone safety Modern office practices and procedures including the use of standard office equipment and computer applications such as word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications Skill In: Customer Service Written and verbal communication Time Management Problem Solving Teamwork and collaboration Ability to: Communicate results and inspection findings to management in a clear and concise manner Adapt to changes in workflow Work independently or as part of a team Operate assigned tools and equipmen Make sound decisions when presented with unprecedented situations ADA and Other Requirements: Work Environment and Physical Effort: Medium: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work Environment: Work is typically performed in an office or similar indoor environment, outdoor environment, street environment (near moving traffic), construction site, and in a vehicle. Employees may occasionally work in or around confined spaces. Working Conditions: There is frequent exposure to loud noises. Employees may occasionally work in extreme cold (below 32 degrees), extreme heat (above 100 degrees), moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles.
