An employee in this class performs responsible public safety communications and administrative support work for the law enforcement, fire, and rescue functions, county agencies, and forestry in the community, including gathering medical information to provide Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) information to callers. Responds to emergency calls as a mobile medical unit driver or attendant, performs necessary rescue work in accordance with established protocols for Basic Life Support Participates in a continuous training program to improve competence in medical clinical work and in ambulance service and operation; maintains knowledge of new or modified operational protocols and procedures; studies street and road patterns and networks of the County in order that future runs may be made with minimum difficulty and delay. Inspects and tests ambulances and their emergency equipment, maintaining proper inventory of equipment and supplies; insures that they are in proper and good working order; makes routine adjustments, but reports other than minor defects for specialized attention. Maintains cleanliness and performs minor maintenance of Emergency Medical Service facilities. Provides assistance to members of volunteer emergency medical service organizations in County, as requested. Completion of all run reports by end of shift Performs other related work as required. Graduation from high school; Certification as an basic EMT; Possession of a valid driver's license. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license; Criminal Records check, drug screen, and references will be required for the successful candidate; All applications will be considered but not necessarily interviewed; Resume in lieu of a completed application is not acceptable; High school diploma or college degree must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
