EMS/ALS Coordinator

This position reports directly to the Director of Public Safety. This position provides leadership and direction for all aspects of the Emergency Medical Science courses. The ALS Coordinator is responsible for the planning, selection, organization, implementation, supervision, facilitation, and evaluation of the learning experience of EMS students in the Paramedic and Advanced EMT education programs. The EMS ALS Coordinator will report to the Director of Public Safety and provide support of instructional responsibilities and program accreditation responsibilities. The EMS ALS Coordinator will serve as the lead instructor and is responsible for overall planning, delivery, and laboratory and clinical instruction. The EMS ALS Coordinator will also participate in training programs associated with the Public Safety programs umbrella and assist the Director of Public Safety as needed. Program Administration Coordinate all Advanced Life Support educational programs. Develop annual course schedules and instructional calendars. Ensure compliance with NCOEMS educational standards. Maintain program approval and required documentation. Prepare reports required by NCOEMS, NCCCS, and the College. Develop and maintain program budgets. Order instructional supplies and equipment. Maintain inventory of training equipment. Assist with strategic planning for EMS education. Participate in program review and continuous quality improvement initiatives. Instruction Teach EMS courses in classroom, laboratory, simulation, clinical, and field settings. Deliver instruction consistent with National EMS Education Standards. Develop and revise course syllabi and instructional materials. Utilize evidence-based instructional methods. Evaluate student knowledge and competency. Administer written, psychomotor, and scenario-based evaluations. Maintain accurate attendance and grading records. Submit grades and required documentation by established deadlines. Clinical and Field Coordination Coordinate clinical and field internship placements. Maintain affiliation agreements with hospitals and EMS agencies. Assign students to clinical and field rotations. Monitor student clinical performance. Ensure students meet all clinical eligibility requirements. Evaluate preceptors and clinical sites. Maintain documentation for accreditation and regulatory compliance. Student Success Recruit prospective students. Advise students regarding educational and career pathways. Monitor student academic progress. Provide remediation plans when needed. Maintain regular communication with students. Assist graduates with National Registry and state credentialing processes. Faculty Leadership Recruit adjunct instructors. Orient and mentor EMS faculty. Conduct classroom observations. Coordinate instructor meetings. Ensure faculty maintain required credentials. Assist with faculty evaluations. Community and Workforce Engagement Maintain partnerships with local EMS agencies, fire departments, hospitals, emergency management agencies, and healthcare organizations. Serve on regional workforce committees. Participate in advisory committee meetings. Represent the college at EMS conferences and community events. Assist employers in identifying workforce training needs. Develop customized EMS training opportunities. Compliance Ensure compliance with: North Carolina Office of EMS regulations North Carolina Community College System requirements National EMS Education Standards National Registry of EMTs OSHA standards HIPAA FERPA College policies and procedures SKILLS: Ability to identify the varied training and educational needs of the people in the Roanoke-Chowan Community College service area. Ability to plan and set up classes on and off campus to help facilitate identified needs. Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse educational, social, and/or economic levels. Understanding of and a commitment to the philosophy of community college education. Associate’s degree in emergency medical service or related field. EMS Level I Paramedic Instructor Certification in North Carolina and eligible to receive EMS Level II Paramedic Instructor Certification in two years or less from date of hire. Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS Provider certification with ability to obtain Instructor Certification in at least one of them. Three years in a related field of EMS. Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Management, Healthcare Education, or related field. National Registry Paramedic certification. Five or more years of ALS instructional experience. Community college teaching experience. Experience coordinating EMS education programs. Experience with curriculum development. Experience supervising adjunct faculty. Grant writing and workforce development experience. Experience using learning management systems (Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard).
