The Metropolitan Sewer District is seeking a Senior Engineer/Engineer who will work within the Internal Design Group under the QA/QC Section. The successful candidate will work on projects involving the design of sewer collection systems linear (local and lateral sewers) projects as well as wastewater treatment facilities improvements projects. This will include developing engineering designs, specifications, and project cost estimates. The ideal candidate should be adept in specialized design software such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, and Revit and will be expected to advance projects in a team environment and be actively engaged in the plan production. This position is also responsible for coordinating with municipal, county, state, and federal agencies to ensure designs meet legal, regulatory, and environmental standards. This role may involve supervising technical staff, manage budgets, and ensure project schedules are met. (Illustrative only. Knowledge of: Engineering and technology, especially as related to assigned area of responsibility--structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, geotechnical, etc; reinforced concrete design. Design techniques, tools, and principals involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. As appropriate, geology, including local geology, investigative practices, and stabilization methods. Code of Ethics for Professional Engineers. Pertinent federal, state, and local codes, laws, regulations and standards, and industry safety standards Principles of management and supervision City personnel policies and procedures and union contracts. Principles and practices of obtaining and administering funding for assigned projects. Materials, tools, and equipment used in engineering. Oversight in ensuring timely responses regarding preliminary plans and project reviews. Perform public engagement activities. Assists in the acquisition of property rights and environmental approvals for construction projects as necessary. Develop database applications and engineering applications on computers for work groups Manage the input of information in database systems. Write reports and summaries and present findings. Review claims and resolve disputes. Review and monitor the Customer Service Request system. Directly investigate and respond to Customer Service Requests (CSRs). Responsible for compliance with the records retention policy Review and approval of private development as it impacts the public right of way. Review and approve new equipment or technology Train subordinate technical personnel in performance of job duties Review and sign division timesheets, F25’s, OT approval and other admin forms. Probationary Period Twelve months Supervision Exercised Receives direction from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises technical and functional supervision over professional and technical staff. SENIOR ENGINEER Each applicant must be a registered professional engineer in the State of Ohio, or in a state with equivalent registration requirements. If not registered in Ohio when appointed, Ohio registration must be obtained during the probationary period. OTHER REQUIREMENTS : Possession of registration with the State of Ohio as a Professional Engineer. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Driver's License. MILITARY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE EVALUATION Military education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations. ENGINEER Each applicant must be enrolled as a Senior in a Bachelor's Degree program in engineering at an accredited college or university, or possess a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an accredited college or university. OR Possess an Engineer-in-Training Certificate from any state. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Possession of Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an accredited college or university is required at the time of hire. Possession, or ability to get, a valid Driver's License. When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
