As of January 1, 2025, Tillamook County is a PERS employer. New employees hired after January 1, 2025 are eligible to participate. Those that are currently participating in PERS will enter automatically, all other employees have a 6 month waiting period. Additional Pay applies if you meet the qualifications: Law Enforcement Certifications: DPSST Intermediate Certified Police Officer earns 4% incentive on base pay; DPSST Advanced Certified Police Officer earns 7% incentive on base pay. Bilingual pay: Successful completion of bilingual fluency and competency, employee receives 5% incentive on base salary. Longevity: 2% on base salary beginning after the 12 th year of continuous service in the bargaining unit; 4% on base salary beginning after the 15 th year of continuous service in the bargaining unit; and 6% on base salary with 20 years or more continuous service in the bargaining unit. ABOUT THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE: The Tillamook County Sheriff's duty is to maintain peace within the county, and as an elected official the Sheriff is accountable to the people of Tillamook County. Citizens living and visiting Tillamook County receive many services from your Sheriff's Office. In the unincorporated areas of Tillamook County deputies provide Law Enforcement and emergency response. But there is much more to the Sheriff’s Office than patrolling the rural parts of our county. Some of the major operations include our 54 dedicated employees running and maintaining the Jail, Search and Rescue on land and water, processing and delivery of civil papers, Community Corrections (Parole and Probation), Court House Security, major crime team response, and support of the municipal City Police Departments. ABOUT THE POSITION: The mission of the Sheriff's Office Criminal Division is to serve and protect the people and property in Tillamook County. This classification performs law enforcement duties to ensure protection of life, property, and civil rights of citizens by investigation of crimes, complaints, and other matters that relate to public welfare; investigates traffic accidents and boating accidents; and maintains appropriate record keeping. To accomplish this mission, the Criminal Division enforces County ordinances along with County, State and Federal laws. In addition to normal patrol duties, the Criminal Division has deputies assigned to Marine, Forest, Detectives, Sandlake Recreational Area, Rockaway, and Garibaldi area for enhanced patrol services. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (Duties assigned to this position are not all inclusive. Additional duties may be assigned.) Essential Functions Engage in traditional law enforcement patrol duties including, but not limited to: Patrol State, County, and forest roads and highways, waterways, business and residential areas, campgrounds, recreation areas, trails, boat launches, marinas, and waterways in the enforcement of traffic and criminal law, water safety laws and regulations. Conduct security checks; issue citations; serve warrants of arrest, summons and civil process papers. Preserve life, protect citizens in dangerous situations, and attempt to de-escalate volatile situations. Ability to testify credibly as a witness in court and administrative proceedings. Respond to and investigate to persons engaged in criminal conduct. Be prepared to take physical force when needed. Respond to law enforcement needs including traffic and boating accidents, crimes, and complaints, and issue related citations or make appropriate arrests. Conduct investigations; gather statements of offenders and witnesses. Arrest and book suspects . Receive evidence which includes fingerprints, photos, etc., and assure chain of control. Transport suspects, prisoners and persons to various locations by motor vehicle. Maintain a valid driver’s license. Respond to and assist in a variety of public safety emergencies. Assist in search and rescue operations. Prepare reports and maintain accurate records necessary for efficient investigations, crime prevention, prosecution and office procedures. Maintain, clean and service police equipment, vehicles, and boats. Represent the Sheriff’s Office to the public and at meetings, answer questions, educate the public, interpret laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations.
