Target Hiring Range: $24.83 - $27.59 The purpose of this position is to supervise, lead, and direct a small crew in the Public Works - Streets division by performing essentially more complex work as those directed, including overseeing work quality, training, instructing and scheduling work. Depending on the assignment may provides emergency response to Public Works issues after work hours which may include but is not limited to all street problems, potholes, trees down, signals, signs, water and sewer issues. Coordinates and schedules activities of assigned crew; enforces department rules, policies and special orders; provides advice on work methods and procedures, and trains subordinates. Work with assigned crew to assure proper workmanship and materials are used. Performs work, operates machinery and equipment as needed, and ensures safety of crew. Ensures that proper equipment and materials are available and are in safe working condition; inspects equipment and performs preventative maintenance as required; makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; completes service requests, work orders and maintains records and reports as required for assigned area of responsibility. Maintains a variety of inventory, maintenance records, initiates purchase requisitions for supplies and equipment. Prepares and maintains records as requested. Depending on the Division: Assist in Traffic operations when assigned. Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency. Three years of street maintenance and drainage experience is required. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check, and must pass a DOT-regulated drug/alcohol test and successfully complete the FMCSA Clearinghouse background check process. Work requires functioning as a lead worker performing essentially the same work as those directed, and includes overseeing work quality, training, instructing, and scheduling work. Work may require providing advice to others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies. Contacts may require the consideration of different points of view to reach agreement. Elements of persuasion may be necessary to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas. This position normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. There is a choice of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties. Performance reviewed periodically. Work requires a comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Intermediate ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias, to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement, and to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech. Special Requirements: Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, weekends and holidays as needed. This position is classified as a DOT position and is subject to drug and alcohol testing, ongoing driver record checks, and is subject to all U.S. DOT regulations during the course of employment. Licenses and Certificates: Valid Class "B" commercial driver's license with a good driving record and ability to maintain while employed will be required. Work Zone Safety certification and Flagging in the Work Zone certification preferred. Work Environment: Work involves extreme exposure to disagreeable elements, and extreme weather conditions.
