Student Employee - Shop Hire: Theatre Costume - Fall 2026

Act as mentors to those involved in the following THEA courses: Production Practicum, Theatre Practicum, Costume Crafts, Costume & Lighting/Sound Technology. Duties Include: Act in various capacities that include, but are not limited to: Costume Designer Assistant Costume Designer Shopper Wardrobe Supervisor Costume Coordinator Tailor Draper First Hand Stitcher Costume PA Wardrobe Crew/Dressers Laundry Maintain organization in all Costume Shop spaces Measure performers for mainstage productions Schedule work hours with the Costume Shop Manager If absences are necessary, notify the Costume Shop Manager in advance. Sew, either by machine or hand, the costumes assigned by the Cutter/Draper, Costume Shop Manager, or Costume Designer. Craft or adapt, using a variety of techniques, the costume accessories assigned by the Cutter/Draper, Costume Shop Manager, or Costume Designer. Manage time effectively on each construction project. Maintain a personal work area, including sewing machinery, to ensure effective work. Communicate with other team members concerning problems and their possible solutions. Perform other sewing and organizing duties as assigned by the Cutter/Draper, Costume Shop Manager, or Costume Designer. Put away tools and supplies after use, and use proper safety equipment when required. Check if we are low on stock of items used regularly in the shop (such as thread, fasteners, Velcro, and elastic), and notify the Costume Shop Manager. Discuss laundry procedures with the show’s Costume Designer or designee. Take notes as necessary Make sure you have identified all costumes that require special handling, and follow the laundering instructions for each. Education: Student enrolled at UCM Experience: No prior experience necessary Working Days and Hours: M-F 8-5, some evenings and weekends. No more than 20 hours a week.
