The Eagle River Fire Protection District has an exciting opportunity for individuals experienced in Community Risk Reduction. We are currently seeking to fill the Assistant Fire Marshal position. About the District: The District’s primary purpose is to provide fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical care, hazardous materials services, fire prevention, and public education to its residents, businesses, and visitors. ERFPD serves a resident population of approximately 25,000, which increases exponentially during the summer and winter tourism seasons. The Eagle River Fire Protection District covers approximately 186 square miles and proudly serves the following areas and communities: Tennessee Pass, Camp Hale, Red Cliff, Minturn, Eagle-Vail, Avon, Mountain Star, Wildridge, Beaver Creek (by contractual agreement), Bachelor Gulch, Arrowhead, Homestead, Edwards, Lake Creek, Singletree, Pilgrim Downs, Cordillera, Bellyache Ridge, Red Sky Ranch and associated portions of I-70, Hwy 6 & Hwy 24. As a team member under the direction of the Fire Marshal, this position performs, but is not limited to, conducting inspections of facilities for compliance with adopted fire and building codes, the inspection and supervision of testing of fire protection systems in accordance with approved plans, and the acceptance and approval of installed systems. This position will also lead education for our stakeholders and perform specialized fire prevention duties for new and existing occupancies and construction types. In addition, this position may conduct or assist with public education, annual fire inspections, code enforcement plan reviews, fire prevention methods and controls, develop prevention programs, and implement them in the community. Ability to acquire and maintain state and national certifications. Supervises the plan review process and reviews sprinkler and alarm systems to ensure compliance with code requirements. Issues new permits, inspects construction sites and fire systems, including providing code interpretation to company officers, contractors, and private home owners. Provides instruction on codes and inspection practices to officers and firefighters. Performs operational-level work in the investigation of the causes of fires. This position requires taking initiative and using independent judgment while maintaining good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
