Job Description The Traffic Engineer will report to the Division Director in the Infrastructure Development Division. This position will review development plans and traffic impact analyses submitted at both rezoning and development permit review stages to ensure compliance with the County's Unified Development Ordinance and adopted standards. Elements in the development plans to be reviewed include street modifications, new streets, traffic control systems, and streetlights. The position will assess potential traffic impacts and coordinate with planners within the Zoning and Development Division and Gwinnett County Department of Transportation (GCDOT) on proposed improvements and mitigation measures, review and coordinate mobility components (such as multi-modal requirements) based on the County’s small area plans, countywide trail vision plan, and infrastructure plans to facilitate implementation, and coordinate with GCDOT, and other local or state agencies as needed. Essential Duties Review plans for proposed development for transportation and mobility impacts Develop updates of Unified Development Ordinance (Title III) and guidelines Maintain records, prepare memoranda and reports Facilitate inter-divisional and inter-departmental coordination Support long-range planning efforts, including review of traffic demand modeling of future conditions, complete street conversions, or quick-build project development Serve as a technical lead in the Infrastructure Development Division, preparing training materials and providing regular training to other team members May provide managerial and supervisory support and staff evaluation to assigned staff Manage special projects and tasks Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program. This position will be filled as an Engineer III, IV, or V depending on qualification of the candidate. Engineer III Grade: C45(1) Salary: $85,311 - $126,900 Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering; AND Two years of progressively responsible engineering experience. Valid Driver's License from State of Residency. Engineer IV Grade: D61(1) Salary: $92,777 - $138,000 Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering; AND Four years of progressively responsible engineering experience. Valid Driver's License from State of Residency. Engineer V Grade: D62(1) Salary: $100,896 - $150,082 Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering; AND Six years of progressively responsible engineering experience, some of which should be in a supervisory capacity. Valid Driver's License from State of Residency. Preferred Qualifications in addition to the above minimum qualifications Professional Engineer (PE) license Master’s degree in civil engineering, transportation engineering, or related field Experience reviewing plans or preparing plans and traffic impact analysis Knowledge or experience in traffic forecasting and modeling, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), Highway Capacity Manual (HPM) and other relevant standards Department Description The mission of Gwinnett County’s Department of Planning and Development is to continuously elevate our approach to planning for growth and delivering services through innovative, people-centered strategies.
