QUALIFICATIONS: · High School Diploma or GED · Two years’ experience in the operation of heavy-duty vehicles, preferably refuse collection vehicles. · Possession of a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s license upon offer of employment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · Operates automated or semi-automated hoisting devices that raise refuse bins and dump contents into openings in truck bodies. · Inspects trucks prior to beginning routes to ensure safe operating condition. · Drives trucks, following established routes, through residential streets or alleys or through business or industrial areas. · Operates equipment that compresses collected refuse. · Dumps refuse or recyclable materials at disposal sites. · Refuels trucks or add other fluids, such as oil or brake fluid. · Maintains vehicles in good working condition. · Completes defective equipment reports. · Communicates with dispatchers concerning delays, unsafe sites, accidents, equipment breakdowns, or other maintenance problems. · Reports vehicle or equipment malfunctions. · Notifies others of emergencies, problems, or hazards. · Tags garbage to inform customers of problems such as excess garbage or inclusion of items that are not permitted. · Installs street signs or replaces existing signs upon request. · Keeps track of asphalt repairs and fills pot holes on an as needed basis. · Inventory supplies such as street signs, equipment, etc. · Recycle paint, oil and other materials. · Delivers garbage containers to new and existing customers.
