STATE PRINTING OFFICE COMPOSING PRE-PRESS TECHNICIAN Carson City, Nevada Salary up to $83,666 (employee/employer paid retirement plan) The Legislative Counsel Bureau (LCB) is seeking a diverse pool of qualified applicants for the position of Composing Pre-Press Technician within the State Printing Office. The LCB is a nonpartisan, legislative service agency that provides professional, technical and administrative support to the Nevada Legislature, which convenes biennially in odd-numbered years for 120-day sessions and for rare special sessions during the interim periods. The State Printing Office provides printing services for Nevada Legislature, the LCB, agencies of the executive branch, the judicial branch and other governmental entities. This is a full-time position located in Carson City, Nevada. Position Description: Under the general direction and supervision of the State Printer, the Composing Pre-Press Technician is responsible for a broad range of responsibilities including typesetting, converting and exporting files to proper formats and reviewing materials for accuracy prior to printing. Responsibilities of the Composing Pre-Press Technician may include, without limitation: Facilitating the accurate and timely printing of legislative documents by preparing files and typesetting according to pre-determined standards; Performing prepress formatting including, without limitation, setting up master templates, embedding and validating fonts and preparing files for multiple output types; Creating press-ready layouts for a variety of legislative documents; Coordinating with print operators to ensure accuracy and effectiveness of print jobs; Reviewing documents for typographical accuracy according to pre-determined standards; Performing digital output functions to generate high-resolution print files; Overseeing plate making using computer-to-plate (CTP) systems to create printing plates for offset presses; and Performing other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: The Composing Pre-Press Technician will be selected with special preference given to the candidate’s training, experience and aptitude in the field of Composing Pre-Press . A qualified applicant must have: (1) A high school diploma/GED; and (2) at least 5 years of experience working in a pre-press department; or (3) an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is required. Experience using Kodak Prinergy is strongly preferred; candidates with experience in similar digital workflow systems will also be considered. The ideal candidate will demonstrate: Extensive experience using software applications specific to the Composing Pre-Press industry; Expert-level skills using design software such as InDesign, Quark, Express, Photoshop, Publisher and PitStop; The ability to lift up to 50lb; Proficiency in both Windows and Apple operating systems; Demonstrable experience using word processing, spreadsheet and database applications; Superior attention to detail with strong mathematical, grammar and spelling skills; and Self-motivation with the ability to remain organized, flexible and adaptive during periods of high-volume output requirements. Salary: The annual salary for this position is based upon a Grade 32, which has a salary range of $56,689 to $83,666 under the employee/employer paid retirement option. An employer-paid contribution plan is also available with a reduced salary in lieu of an employee contribution. Actual starting salary will be based on experience. Other optional benefits are also available, including a deferred compensation program. Working Conditions: The work is performed in typical office and printing environment. Overtime may be required during legislative sessions and certain other periods as necessary to meet the demands of the Legislature. When overtime is worked, the Composing Pre-Press Technician may earn compensatory time that may be taken at a later date or be paid for overtime, consistent with the LCB Rules and Policies and subject to budgetary limits.
