About the Position The Resident Engineer serves as the on-site technical authority responsible for administering and overseeing public infrastructure construction projects for the Flood Control District. In this role, you will provide professional engineering expertise, direct field inspection activities, problem solve, and facilitate communication among contractors, consultants, project managers, and internal and external stakeholders. This position ensures that all construction activities comply with contract documents, engineering standards, applicable codes, and regulatory requirements, while delivering the project on time and cost-effectively. Work With Us | Maricopa County, AZ We Require Two years of professional experience as a Resident Engineer with direct work experience in CE&I (Construction, Engineering, and Inspection) Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Environmental, etc.) Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration, or by the technical board of another state, with the ability to obtain Arizona registration within six months of employment Other Requirements Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire. This includes providing guidance and direction to contractors, resolving construction issues and problems at the lowest level, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements Perform in-house reviews of construction plans and specifications, participate in constructability reviews, and prepare reports documenting construction activities and progress Use engineering knowledge to identify and resolve construction problems within the context of the plans and specifications. Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one.
