Job Description PURPOSE SUMMARY. Perform code enforcement duties, enforce local environmental solid waste ordinances and regulations, and increase public awareness of the importance of compliance to ensure a safe, sanitary and clean environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES. 1. Patrol areas as assigned to enforce environmental laws and regulations such as the collection and disposal of solid waste. Respond to inquiries and complaints regarding solid waste; weeds, trash, littering and junk; abandoned or inoperable vehicles. Perform inspections and conduct investigations at illegal dump sites, dilapidated or junked vehicles, trash or weed accumulation and determine whether a violation has occurred. Issue warnings and/or citations for non-compliance. Initiate follow-up visits and inspections to ensure compliance. Complete case reports before end of shift and maintain reoccurring reports on enforcement activities. 2. Respond to public inquiries and complaints regarding code violations. 3. Prepare formal complaints and charges for criminal court actions against violators of County ordinances pertaining to violations. Prepare case files. Prepare written reports and take pictures. Testify in court proceedings. 4. Provide options for mediation between neighbors in resolving code related issues. 5. Perform special projects and activities.
