Backend SW Engineer Key words: JVM / Core Kotlin, C-family language / real-time messaging / data streaming, performance optimization, distributed systems, multithreaded development, concurrent programming, garbage free code, lantency sensitive programming, sw engineering, Computer Science We are looking for Backend Developers (talented juniors to experienced seniors) to work on a proprietary real-time trading system development and optimization. Super talented juniors , fresh grads or soon to be graduates from top tech universities in CZ and EU are welcome to apply. Especially those majoring in one of the following: System Programming, Distributed Systems, High Performace Computing or similar. If you believe you are in the top 10-th percentile of sw engineering / computer science professionals in Czech Republic ( or globally :) ), and are not intimidated by the toughest of engineering challenges and are open to put your skills and knowledge to the test - we believe we have a great opportunity for you! The top 10-th percentile 'requirement' should not be interpreted as pompous, presumptuous or arrogant - we need the best of the best for this role and anything short of that will just not do, as experience has taught us. We believe in direct and honest communication and would like to set the expectations right from the get-go. This is a tough role and needs someone who is equally competent and confident in his skills, knowledge and experience. Tech stack: the core platfrom is developed in Kotlin, but previous experience with Kotlin is not required, willingness to learn and work with Kotlin is expected of course :) We are happy to consider strong sw engineers with JVM or C-family languages background who are interested in working with Kotlin and design complex, close to real-time system using the (stateless) microservices architecture with the main focus on performance optimization. But it's not all about performance and multithreaded code - Spring (Boot), Hibernate an other Java frameworks are also used in some "less latency sensitive" product teams. So if you are a fan od Spring (Boot) and have solid sw engineering and Compsci fundamentals - there is a role for you too! Some of the preferred skills / knowledge areas include: lock-free structures, thread pools, async IO, wait-free algorithms, high-load systems real-time systems, working with data streams, reactive programming, exceptional problem solving and sw design skills, etc ). A solid Computer Science background ( data structures, algorithms, complexity, etc) is a must, while previous experience working with real-time messaging / data streaming systems would be an enormous benefit, but this is not a hard requirment. The position is open for seasoned sw engineerings experts as well, but particularly to talented juniors (last year CompSci students, fresh graduates from top tech universities in CZ and EU) as long as they meet the above criteria and have good theoretical CompSci knowledge and substantial practical programming experience, extracurricular activities, coding competitions, IMO / IOI olympiads, etc. The core team consists of top-class senior sw engineers, quant and market analysts who use their accumulated know-how to create a state-of-the-art platform. The company grew from a small team of experts to currently 350+ people. They are not scaling up, rather growing organically and are looking for top quality as oppose to quantity, hence the entry bar is set very high, but so is the reward for those who make it. Other key points that usually interest candidates: Workplace - at least 2-3 days working in the office is required. The office is located in Central Prague. For candidates outside of Prague 2 days in the office can be considered. Model of cooperation: FTE is strongly preferred, but contract based (b2b) cooperation can also be considered for those who really need and prefer it. Salary / MD rate - whatever is required for the right candidate who shines during the interview process. Position is only open to candidates with a valid work permit in Czechia and who are physically based in Czechia specifically Prague as it is mainly an on-site role.. That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
