THE ROLE We are looking for a senior data engineer / data architect to lead the redesign of our data warehouse. The focus is on critically assessing our existing high-volume data infrastructure, understanding the business logic embedded in it, and re-modelling it to better serve collections, recovery, and portfolio reporting. The right person combines deep technical command of Oracle and modern data architectures with the ability to understand why the data is structured the way it is — and to improve it without breaking the business processes that depend on it. RESPONSIBILITIES Assess the existing data warehouse — identify structural, performance, and design weaknesses — and lead its redesign Re-model the warehouse across conceptual, logical, and physical layers to better reflect business processes and reporting needs Define and execute the migration strategy, ensuring continuity of critical reporting throughout the transition Administer and optimize Oracle databases, with planned expansion toward PostgreSQL Design and tune complex queries — SQL tuning, execution plan analysis, indexing and partitioning strategies Translate requirements from business and analytics stakeholders into data structures, and advise on what the data genuinely supports Apply data privacy, access control, and anonymization by design across all warehouse and pipeline work Ensure high availability, scalability, and performance monitoring of the redesigned system REQUIREMENTS Advanced SQL — Oracle is mandatory; PostgreSQL is a strong plus Proven experience designing or redesigning data warehouses, including data modelling (conceptual, logical, physical) Demonstrated ability to understand the business logic behind existing data structures and reconcile it with an improved technical design Strong database performance optimization skills — query optimization, partitioning, indexing Experience with high-volume / high-throughput systems Solid knowledge of data architectures: Data Warehousing and Data Lakes Experience with data integration and processing tools (ETL/ELT) Experience working with sensitive / personal data and applying data-protection practices Hands-on experience with a cloud database platform (Azure preferred; AWS a plus) Knowledge of analytics / predictive modelling is a plus PROFILE Strong analytical mindset, with the judgment to challenge existing designs and propose better ones Comfortable owning a problem end to end — from understanding the business need through to architecture, build, and migration Able to communicate technical trade-offs (performance, cost, maintainability) clearly to non-technical stakeholders Pragmatic about balancing an ideal design against operational continuity and delivery constraints WHAT WE OFFER Flexible working hours Meal tickets Medical insurance subscription 21 days of annual leave 1 additional leave day for each year with the company 1 additional leave day on your birthday In-house and off-site team events Hackathon & Wall of Fame — EOS Group international innovation competition Gift tickets for special occasions (Christmas, Easter, Children's Day) Possibility to work remotely 2 days per week Apply today and become part of EOS Romania's data transformation journey. That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
