About The Role The Senior Operations Research Scientist role is a vital position within McKesson's Enterprise Data Science Team, specifically within the Operations Research group. The primary responsibility is to architect, develop, and implement advanced simulation and optimization solutions that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of McKesson's supply chain operations. This role involves working on strategic projects related to inventory optimization, transportation, and network modeling to drive operational excellence. The ideal candidate will leverage data science methodologies and operations research techniques to solve complex interdisciplinary business problems, providing actionable insights and innovative solutions to improve supply chain performance. This position requires a proactive approach to developing statistical models, understanding business needs, and translating analytic outputs into strategic recommendations. The Senior Operations Research Scientist will collaborate with cross-functional teams, influence decision-making processes, and drive adoption of new tools and frameworks that support McKesson's mission to deliver better healthcare outcomes. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Operations Research, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline, with typically 7+ years of relevant professional experience. Advanced degrees (Master’s or PhD) are preferred. Demonstrated expertise in developing stochastic process simulations and applying optimization techniques in supply chain contexts is essential. Strong proficiency in probability, statistics, and machine learning methods is required, along with experience in data wrangling using SQL and statistical modeling in Python or R. Excellent communication skills are necessary to effectively convey complex results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Authorization to work in the U.S. without support from McKesson is mandatory. Responsibilities Architect and develop digital twin models, simulation frameworks, and optimization algorithms to support decision-making in inventory management, transportation logistics, and labor planning within the supply chain. Implement stochastic process simulations to evaluate various operational scenarios and guide strategic decisions. Translate complex simulation and optimization outputs into clear, actionable recommendations for business partners and leadership teams. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process improvements and innovative solutions. Drive the adoption of simulation and optimization tools across relevant departments and monitor their impact on operational performance. Continuously learn and apply new analytic techniques, including reinforcement learning and advanced modeling approaches, to enhance existing solutions and develop new ones. Design and develop dashboards, decision support tools, and applications that make model outputs accessible and understandable to business users. Maintain awareness of industry trends and emerging technologies in data science, operations research, and supply chain management.
