What you'll do You'll be the person responsible for keeping our database platforms fast, available, and secure across development, testing, and production. That means real ownership: you'll tune the queries and indexes, size and configure the environments, manage users and permissions, run backup, replication, and disaster recovery, and step in when something is slow at 4pm on a release day and nobody knows why. You'll work with a high degree of independence — this is not a role where you wait to be assigned work. The other half of the job is building on top of what you administer. You'll partner with Development, QA, Operations, and Data Engineering on deployments, schema changes, and application performance work, and you'll design logical data models, develop reusable datasets, and stand up dashboards and reports that people across the business actually use to make decisions. If you like the operational side of databases and the "what can we learn from this data" side, this role has both, on purpose. Our stack is primarily relational — PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQL Server — with some NoSQL exposure, and we report out of Power BI/Tableau. What you'll need Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related technical field — or equivalent hands-on experience 5+ years administering production database environments (DBA, database engineering, or data operations) Advanced relational database skills — PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server — including schema design, indexing strategy, query optimization, and performance tuning Hands-on ownership of backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery Working knowledge of database security and access control: roles and permissions, encryption, auditing, and compliance requirements Scripting and automation in Python, Bash, or equivalent Experience building dashboards or reports in Power BI, Tableau, or a similar tool Ability to explain a technical problem clearly to people who don't administer databases for a living What makes you stand out Experience partnering directly with Dev, QA, and Data Engineering through deployments, schema changes, and incident response Data governance depth — lineage, data quality, retention, access frameworks NoSQL exposure alongside your relational work A track record of automating away the operational toil rather than absorbing it Experience mentoring or onboarding other engineers
