About The Role We are seeking a skilled DevOps Engineer specializing in Platform Reliability and Observability to join our dynamic DevOps team in New Haven. Reporting directly to the DevOps Engineering Manager, this role is vital in supporting and maintaining hybrid infrastructure platforms that encompass on-premises environments, Kubernetes clusters, cloud services, and CI/CD pipelines. The primary focus of this role is to enhance system reliability, operational visibility, and observability across diverse environments, including supporting uptime and service reliability for D-Wave's Quantum Computing as a Service (QCaaS) platform and hardware-integrated systems. This position offers flexibility with a remote-friendly setup, with a preference for candidates located near New Haven to facilitate occasional on-site collaboration. As a DevOps Engineer in this role, you will be instrumental in troubleshooting complex issues, improving deployment processes, and ensuring systems are scalable, well-instrumented, and reliable. You will work across infrastructure, cloud, and developer workflows to optimize platform operations, automate manual tasks, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our systems. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys hands-on problem solving, working across multiple systems, and driving operational excellence in a fast-paced, innovative environment. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience 3+ years of experience in DevOps, systems engineering, or infrastructure management Strong fundamentals in Linux and troubleshooting skills in distributed environments Hands-on experience with AWS and cloud infrastructure management Proficiency with CI/CD systems such as GitHub Actions Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform and Ansible Familiarity with containerization using Docker and deploying containerized workloads Understanding of Kubernetes concepts and container orchestration Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Zabbix, CloudWatch, OpenSearch, and Grafana Knowledge of relational databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL/InnoDB, and Amazon Aurora, with troubleshooting skills Scripting skills in Python, Bash, or similar languages for automation and debugging Solid understanding of networking fundamentals including DNS, routing, and firewalls Strong problem-solving and debugging skills across multiple systems Ability to adapt in a fast-moving environment with evolving priorities Desire to learn and grow in areas such as Kubernetes, observability, and infrastructure automation Responsibilities Develop and maintain logging, metrics, dashboards, and alerting solutions to improve system observability Utilize tools like Zabbix, OpenSearch, CloudWatch, and Grafana to enhance system visibility and operational reliability across hybrid cloud and on-prem environments Investigate and resolve issues across infrastructure, Kubernetes workloads, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud services Support the deployment, troubleshooting, and reliability of Kubernetes platforms (both on-premises and cloud-based) Build, maintain, and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines, ensuring reliable and repeatable deployments Assist with troubleshooting and optimizing stateful services and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Amazon Aurora Maintain hybrid infrastructure spanning on-premises data centers and AWS cloud environments Implement and manage infrastructure-as-code using Terraform and Ansible to automate provisioning and configuration Support containerized applications, including building, deploying, and debugging Docker workloads Enhance alert quality, reduce noise, and support effective incident response processes Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and improve overall system reliability Contribute to automation initiatives to reduce manual operational efforts and improve consistency Support internal development environments and shared infrastructure services to streamline workflows Benefits Competitive salary aligned with experience and market standards Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plans Flexible work arrangements including remote work options Generous paid time off and holidays Opportunities for professional development and continuous learning Participation in company ownership and equity programs Collaborative and inclusive work environment that values diversity and innovation Access to cutting-edge technology and projects in quantum computing Equal Opportunity D-Wave Systems Inc. is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace.
