Role Description The Information Technology Specialist I is a full-time, on-site role located at Troy University’s campus in Troy, AL. This position supports the university’s technology environment by installing, configuring, and maintaining computer hardware, software, and peripheral devices for faculty, staff, and students. Daily responsibilities include responding to help desk tickets, troubleshooting technical issues, and providing user support for classroom technology, labs, and office systems. The role also assists with network connectivity, account setup, basic system administration tasks, and documentation of procedures and resolutions. The specialist collaborates with other IT team members to ensure systems are secure, reliable, and aligned with university standards and policies. Qualifications Demonstrated skills in desktop and laptop support, including installation, configuration, and routine maintenance of operating systems and applications. Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, and peripheral issues, including printers, scanners, classroom AV equipment, and related devices. Foundational knowledge of networks and system administration, such as user account management, basic security practices, and connectivity support. Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple support requests in a fast-paced campus setting. Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
